What are the "Big Five" to You?

Never really dealt with service with most of them, but:

1. Fällkniven
2. Extrema Ratio
3. Fehrman
4. Busse
5. Lakota (yeah, I know they went out-of-business, but they made some awesome knives - highly underrated imo)

The current list would be:

1. Benchmade
2. Spyderco
3. Victorinox
4. CRKT
5. Cold Steel

Kershaw and CRKT both deserve to be on the list, but since I''m only limited to five, I lean towards CRKT as I think more people are buying CRKT than Kershaw. I, myself, am not fond of Victorinox, but one has to concede their popularity and influence.

Cold Steel goes on my list because they're popular and because they're the only company that offers large folders not available anywhere else. CS's blade size, polishing, heat treat and quality locking mechanisms and overall strength and dependability definitely put them on the map.

Off the map is Gerber, which would now go on my "has been" list (and CRKT may be joining them if it continues putting out junk blades; still, they're not there yet).

My top 5.

1. Spyderco
2. Kershaw
3. Scrap Yard Knife Works
4. Benchmade
5. Leatherman

Edit: I had to re-read the OP to see that we're talking about customer service, but my list still stands in that regard.

Really just a top 3 for me. If you had asked this same thing 15-20
years ago, Puma would have made the list.

1. Mantis Knives
2. Cold Steel
3. Dark Ops
4. Smith and Wesson
5. Kershaw

CRK
Kershaw/ZT
Buck
Benchmade
SOG
Above for Customer service.

Knifemakers:
CRK
Kershaw/ZT
Benchmade
And a couple of customs

I'm surprized that Chris Reeves Knives (CRK) is only on 1 persons list so far. If you're just talking about CS mine are:
1.Buck
2.CRK
3.Spyderco
4.Kershaw
5.Benchmade

I would have included them for Customer service, but I was thinking more along the lines of what is a Big Name Company that produces a lot of blades that instantly comes to mind.

example, Case, Buck, the five I chose, etc....more along the lines of mass production I guess :o

Based on CS only

1. Kershaw (duh)
2. Spyderco
3. Boker
4. Buck
5. CRKT

*rant on*

1278th. Benchmade
I cannot get them to answer emails sent to the repair dept.
I have been sending emails for weeks about getting something repaired
and never get any replies.
And no, I didn't call them. I'm on the phone enough during the day.

When I was a Benchmade enthusiast, I called and any problems or concerns I had were quickly resolved to my satisfaction.

LMAO.....I always call, emails never work :p I had called in a few weeks ago about getting a new blade for my 551 and they answered the phone quickly and told me to ship it off with I think $20-$25 and they would fix it up. I haven't gotten around to it, but they did answer the phones pretty quickly  :D

1. Spyderco
2. RAT Cutlery
3. Benchmade
4. Kershaw (includes ZT)
5. KA-BAR

Number 6 would be Victorinox.

Note worthy: Leatherman, Buck, & case.

For CS:
I have only ever dealt with one, Columbia River.

For market share (and this isn't counting Chinese crap like Frost)
1. Buck (USA)
2. Gerber (USA)/ Fiskars (International)
3. Victorinox (International)
4. Wenger (International)
5. Puma and Mora are probably tied for fifth (International)

these are the ones i have done business with:

#1 Emerson *****5 star top notch company*****
#2 Kabar
#3 Swiss Army/Victorinox
#4 Spyderco
#5 Grohamm

Spyderco
Benchmade
Buck
CRK
W/H

I only have service experience with Spyderco and Buck and would rate them in that order, giving Spyderco a slight edge. The fact is though, the service from both companies was excellent.
