What are the first things you think of others that don't carry a knife?

The first thing I think is that you most likely can't rely on them in a real life situation because they probably don't own other tools if they don't carry a cutting tool.

Or it could mean that they are a sheep type of person that is not aware of their rights.

And then the funny thing is that they always have a smart phone attached to them, but they don't have a knife.

Then I think I just don't have much in common with them, unless they have some type of knowledge of knives and other related things, because I know a few people that don't always carry a knife but they at least know some amount of knowledge pertaining to knives/outdoor/guns etc.

I think you're over analyzing my friend. Whether or not a person carries a knife is a poor way to judge them by any standards. You really think you couldn't get a long with or have anything meaningful in common with a person who doesn't carry a knife?

No, I have quite a few friends and associates that don't carry knives.

Personally, I would rather see someone without a knife, than I would someone with a huge knife, that thinks they are Survivorman. Especially when a lot of them have never been in the woods...

Everyone is different. I have friends that don't normally carry a knife, and also have friends that do carry a knife, but it is so dull, it is useless.

My view on this is the opposite, because at least they have a tool and are trying to be prepared and they will eventually learn how to sharpen their blade. And 9 times out of 10 they always have a cheap flee market or liquor store knife but they will eventually learn about the better brands and they will help keep our hobby in business.

I agree, that's putting things very much in a microcosm. Take me for instance, do I really need to have a knife (or knives) on me every day? No. Do I need a handgun on me (or with me)? No, thankfully. But I choose to have all of the above, partly because I feel I may need any or all of them and partly because they are things that interest me and make up my 'identity' so to speak.

I'm a lawyer, I don't practice trial litigation so I'm never in court and spend 95% of the time at work sitting in my office either reading, typing, or talking on the phone. Just ab out the hardest use my EDC knives see most days is opening my mail, for which they are basically overkill anyway. Most people around me at work don't know much about my gun and knife interests and I don't make a big deal of it, I have plenty in common with those who have different interests than my own. It's called being open minded.

What an odd thread. Now, since you're passing judgement that because they don't carry a knife they are useless wouldn't it be a safe assumption why some consider us that do carry knives dangerous? Differences don't always have to turn out to be an us vs. them thing.

They do or carry what they want and I will do the same, to each their own. No point in judging someone till you get to know them a lot of people will surprise you.

I don't care what other people do. If you honestly feel you have no reason to carry a knife then don't. After all, it's not my life to live. If you want to go around being under prepared in life that's entirely on you. In my eyes every man should carry a pocket knife on his person every day. Regardless if you are less than enthused about knives makes absolutely no difference in my opinion, Have something as simple as a pocket knife shouldn't even be a consideration honestly. However, we all live different lives and have different thoughts and feelings on things. So hey, do what you want. I will say this though, if you don't think you should have a knife on you all the time and you ask me to use mine one day don't be surprised if I smirk at you with a kind of "told ya so" look about me.

I am an exception in this country in that I carry a swiss army on a daily basis along with a pocket torch and some duck tape I have had some strange looks and the odd comment along the lines of I must be a serial killer etc. I however have no issue with those who choose to blunder around unprepared I will even help out when things go pear shaped and they just stand flapping thier gums wondering what to do next :D

Personally, I just don't care. The measure of a man (or woman) isn't set by me dependent on what kind of stuff they carry around. I have so many things going on in my life at any given time such as taking care of an elderly parent, running my company, managing a small non profit, keeping up with my personal relationships...

I just don't care.

I have too many other things to do. Productive things. Necessary things. Responsibilities to answer to. And since it isn't up to anyone else to live up to the standards I have concocted for them, I can only think they probably don't care about my standards as well. They may be annoyed I carry a knife.

Surprisingly, I don't care about that, either.

Usually the only way I know someone doesn't have a knife is if they ask for mine. When that happens I just think "too bad they don't have one--what if I wasn't here?" to myself and leave at that.

left their knife home.

Impossible

To the op, people like different things. You shouldn't judge someone for not liking the same things as you to. Maybe they would carry a knife but they just weren't raised that way. I feel knives are a type of culture so if someone was raised in an environment where a pocket knife wasn't valued in daily life when they were growing up, they probably wouldn't even think of carrying a knife. Same as how I wear a hat everyday. All the men in my life wore hats regularly so I wore one and still do. That doesn't mean I call other people idiots for not wearing a hat.

I don't even give it a thought one way or another.

I have gotten a couple of people to start carrying a knife however simply because they realized how handy it is is to have even a small pen knife with them.

I read this once (I will try to best paraphrase).

There are 2 types of non knife carrying people:

1. The type that thinks they are too good to carry a knife and are often opening packages with a their teeth, a pen, or a key (A key is just a really dull serrated knife).

2. The type that always wants to borrow your knife. Quick to make a comment on it's size or sharpness.

First it's necessary to differentiate between those that don't carry by choice, and those that aren't legally able to carry. Then it's a matter of determining who is carrying but giving no visual indication, either because they want to be discrete, or because they're ashamed of the knife that they have on hand.
