What are the modern grails of edc?

The benchmade 530 shown here with some others is a gentleman's tactical.. My favorite at your max budget. Spydercos are always awesome, many for alot less money

. But for "budget grail"... Benchmade.

People might call me crazy for this, but Benchmade 300SN. It might not be the best flipper, but the thumbstuds are amazing, the build quality is phenomenal, the blade geometry is fantastic, the ergos are outstanding, it uses a proven blade steel, and it has the best lock ever invented :D

Using the guidelines given, I would say a more consistent Boker Epicenter. Every Rexford leaves me drooling and the Epicenter is nearly identical in looks to his standard models. My only hesitation is that Boker is inconsistent in the quality department.

Very demanding for someone who is asking for information.

A good knife in your target price range is the Spyderco Delica. Since you demand a description, it has VG-10 steel, a full flat grind blade, and is available in a number of handle colors in fiberglass reinforced nylon. It has a lockback and a hole in the blade for opening purposes, and has a belt clip which can be repositioned for tip up, down, right, and left.

Newbie here and I know there are tons of Spyderco fans here, but I have a Spyderco Delica4 with a STR deep pocket clip, but I don't like it for EDC. Great for camping and hiking, though.

Shoot me here, but I love my Buck Vantage Smalls - 340 cheapy (+/- $25), and G10/S30V 342 (+/- $60). They are the perfect EDC as far as I am concerned. Excellent blade shape, awesome carry clip, pretty thin, easy to keep clean. They are not super smooth opening and I added a zip tie thumb stud for easier opening, but day to day they are the knife I carry most. Made in the USA and you don't have worry about abusing it.

Mini-griptilian with deep carry clip would be my choice at the next price level ($80 to $100).

What are the great knives that are truly well designed, affordable to anybody, and available to all?

I don't mean the kind of knife that's 400+, and is super hard to find,

I mean the kind of knife that's easily available on amazon/knife stores, is under 150, well designed.
Note: When i say under 150, I do not mean at 150, I'm targeting a median price point at 60 dollars, and that 150 is the absolute most

Also: Please don't just say the name of the knife, provide a description as well.

In my opinion a great knife is:
Good all around design, easy to put in your pocket for most people (around 3" give or take 1"?), easy to open and close, looks great.

Go!

edit: yeah yeah, I get it. a grail is rare. whoop de doo
Footnote: if you tell me no grail is easy to obtain, I encourage you to stick a rod up it.

There are quite a few people here who have bad attitudes. They think because they know the terminology and have x amount of posts on a knife forum they are better than you. This attitude almost pushes me away every few weeks, and I'm pretty new. Don't worry about misusing the term grail. If someone read your original post they know what you mean by grail. However, I think it would be smart to stay above them and point out your difference of opinion in a civil manner rather than stooping to their level. They may continue their attitude and attack ignorantly (often they do) but you will have maintained the righteous position.

Spyderco Manix 2 --- best of the modern...
Schatt and Morgan bone handled anything (...i like the jack knives and cotton samplers....) best of the Traditionals"... .
Ya wont have to sharpen the spyderco. Ya will have to sharpen the Schatt and Morgan....

You have gotten some good examples of value knives, not necessarily "grails" but same kind of idea. Basically you seem to be asking "what are some great must have knives under $150?" Well the Para 2, Military, Gayle Bradley, Several Benchmades and other Spydercos would fit this catagory. At the price of $60.00 you should be looking for Spyderco (delica etc, or kershaw for some really nice value folders.) Either way, good luck!

IMO the Spyderco Para2 is the perfect edc blade. Here's my reasons why
1. Its just the right size, not to big or small
2. Its lightweight while still being very solid
3. The blade shape and ffg make it a good slicer and I love the sharp pointy tip
4. S30V takes a good edge and holds it for a good amount of time while still being easy to touch up
5. The ergonomics of the handle are amazing, it feels like it was custom made for my hand

The only drawback is that its hard to actually find one.

Im a bit confused, why won't you have to sharpen the Spyderco?

There are as many answers to this question as there are people to answer it. Mine is currently a Halo V plain edge Tanto Marifone custom... that will, of course, change if i ever get one

Griptilian. The standard one. Minis are for people with tiny, tiny hands like midgets :P. The regular one is a super knife that would do well as a survival knife in a pinch (what is what a survival scenario is all about). No serrations or coatings needed, just the plain Jane version. Light and comfortable, to me it feels like a moraknife in value, except it is a folding knife with great steel and an awesome combat style profiling. Also, excellent locking mechanism. If you want a non-folding knife instead in the same price-range I would suggest something in the BK17-range. Also excellent knives although not same value for money in my opinion.
