:confused:I was thinking to my self today and i was wondering why dont more people edc fixed blades because theres no moving parts there stronger and just more capable than a folder so now im on the hunt for a edc fixedblade. So in your opinion what are the cons of carrying a fixed bladed knife?

the cons?

the sheeple panic and wail and gnash their teeth and freak out, because they have been conditioned by the gubmint to think that everything is a weapon and that anyone with a weapon is out to kill them.

I think you can attract alot of negative attention by toting a fixed blade knife everyday.
Whether it be from people who want to start trouble, pr law enforcement officers and from sheeple. I've gotten negative comments from people while hiking on trails for carrying a fixed blade. I think folders can habdle any edc task and keep you below the radar. If you are going to edc a fixed blade I'd go real small like brkt mikrocanadian but that's just me. I', sure other peoples opinions will come into play.

There really aren't any cons, other than your pocket knife is twice the size of a folder. I EDC a 6.75" fixed breeden kat everyday. No regrets here!

You can stick a bigger blade in your pants if its folded though....So I guess the drawback is you are pretty much limited to 3" blades and under if they are slipped in your front pocket. For belt carry - no limits at all.

i was thinking under 2.5 inches and carbon or tool steel or maybe a brkt psk but its stainless

I edc my gossman PSK every day. In its JeffH kydex, its slim, and I hardly notice its there.

I edc a fixed blade alot, as long as I'm legal(under 4") I don't care.

I have been pestered by a young nieve LEO before, but nothing ever came of it.

I have a couple fixed EDC knives and every time I use it, I get looks or comments by people. It became such a hassle I quit carrying one and went to a good ol' SAK. I tried to carry a larger folder and people freaked about that too! Frickin' ridiculous...

Announcing the start up of the Fixed Blade EDC Re-Education Society. Our mission is wear our fixed blades out in public every day, to gradually get people used to seeing blades on a belt. , and to educate the sheeple about knives, steel, uses etc , in a friendly and non threatening manner.

basically a folder is a fixed blade that is already broken...

Size vs weight.

Gen a fixed knife is stronger, bigger and heavier, whilst a folder is smaller, lighter and weaker. But there are variation, this is just a general guide.

I've noticed that the sheeple tend not to mind a fixed blade on you if you're old, wear a well worn ball cap, and tell old timey stories. Anyone like that here feel free to chime in, old timer?

I would opt in for that. I can't see any cons to the FB as long as it's legal where you live. During hunting seasons around here people carry them all the time. I don't think it gets much attention from ND folks.

That said, a fixed blade just is not as handy as a SAK with multiple tools. I guess you could carry both.:D

yup! when i wear my well worn canvas bushpants, old wool shirt and FILSON hat and fixed blade , no one bats an eye. If i waer my black jeans, tshirt and boonie hat and fixed blade, i get lots of stares and comments about the knife.

I carry a Busse active duty daily in a leather inside the waistband sheath by Rainwalker.

It has worked out great for me, but I rarely tuck in a shirt anymore so it is easy to do with out freaking people out and is so comfortable I rarely know it's there.

I do carry a small Buck lancer also, didn't think I'd like it that much but I have grown fond of it.

I recently started carrying a Stubby Razel EDC. It took some getting used to, after years of carrying folders. Now I love it. Though I do still have a Kershaw Chive as a backup on my keyring.

When I was EDCing a fixed blade it was because I was using it 30+ times a day and it was just easier than having to open and close a folder all the time. That being said, I chose a FB I made that was tiny, about a 2" blade on a 3-3.5" handle. When people did notice it, I only got posative comments.

I carry a RAT-3 everyday and have for over a year. I also carry a LM Wave for the tools and what not. I whipped out the RAT at a church function and didn't get any negative comments (actually more interest than anything) and I've had it out in public and not really had any problems. From time to time I'll take out the Wave if I'm in an odd place but most of the time I just don't give a flying squirrel. Folks around here are used to it though, so that might be a lot of it.

All of my fixed blades are 3" or more (except a Krein TK1), and when carried they are uncomfortable sitting in a chair all day, or driving in the car, or being active with kids playing sports. My folders don't get in the way when working or being active for me.
