What are these critters in my backyard?

Actually, Bobcat get very small tufts as well. Not as pronounced and show up more in mature specimens.

They may be hybrids. My friends in upstate NY who live a homestead lifestyle had some cats that were borne of a bobcat father and domestic cat mother. I almost took one home with me - she insisted on following me around and sleeping on my lap anytime I sat down. They had huge hind legs and were halfway sized between a bob and a domestic.

How could you resist having one of those as your own?

I am not a cat person either, but these are pretty good looking wildcats!

In total, there were 3 kittens and their mother. They are probably good for the ecology around here since we are up to our ears in rabbits, squirrels and other rodents.

Thanks for the confirmations - now I know they're bobcats.

Incidentally, in the last pic, the mother and kitten are looking up at this one in the tree:

I'd so love to have one of those as a pet. I'd even feed my family's old cats to it! :D

Nice pics. I like wild cats. Particularly bobcats and lynx. Mountain Lions are next on the list!

Awesome pictures!!! I have only seen a juvenile bobcat in the wild one time. Have seen quite a few adults. But getting pictures is a whole different matter. Excellent!

Bobcat. They look just like the pelt in my garage (albeit a little thicker).

Man I am so jealous. I've never seen a bobcat in the wild. You seem to have a den in your backyard. The eye spots behind the ears give it away! They are beauties.
