What are you opinions on SOG?

The Trident deserves to sit at the back of the short bus and be mocked. It would be ok if it was $15-$20 bucks, asking $45 for it is highway robbery.

Cool designs, overpriced, chronic bladeplay. too many other better choices out there for the same price.

Some of SOG's offerings appeal to me. Mainly their fixed blades. Their assisted opening folders are too sloppy. Lot's of blade wobble and really don't inspire much confidence in using them for anything other than opening letters. Also, the fact that they don't do factory collaborations (as far as I know) makes it a brand that I tend to dismiss. I'd rather look at Spyderco, Kershaw, etc...

If you're going to "hard" use the knife, stainless AUS-8 isn't the best choice. It's chipping because stainless is brittle compared to a simple carbon steel. If you want to use the knife for bushcraft/camping chores get an ESEE,Becker or other high carbon steel knife.

Stainless is for pocket knives and dedicated skinning knives where edge retention is more important than toughness.

I can recommend the Aegis and Mini-Aegis, plus the Spear Point version of the Vulcan.

I haven't gotten around to getting any of their fixed blades or multi-tools though.

The buddy of mine who had the SOG Trident also owned a SOG Powerlock Multitool. He used it pretty hard and had nothing but good things to say about it. Most of the reviews of SOG's multitools that I have seen/heard have been pretty good.

I have had one of their Tridents that uses the AUS-8 and have had no problems out of it I have had it for about a year now and use it every day and the blade holds it's edge just fine but there is a little bit of side play in the blade but other than that I have had no problems out of it.

Woah! Slow down a bit buddy! Take a deep breath, and use some punctuation.

One of my edc knives is a SOG Vulcan. VG-10, Seki Japan, etc. I paid $100.00 for this knife.

My opinion...Great knife. Smooth flipper, wicked sharp and nice lock-up. One of my favorites. Not as nice as my HTM "Gunhammer" or ZT 0300, but I prefer it to my ZT 0700.

SOG Powerlocks (multitools) are fabulous Imo. Made in the USA and tough as hell, great lifetime warranty (used it, it works) and a fair price. Just got the black EOD model and I like the more needle like needle nose pliers. Replaceable tools... heavy for sure, but it always has a place on my hip. Even when I'm in my leathers on my bike! :D

I have a few SOG blades and they have never given me any problems.

I own......

SOG Bluto
SOG Aegis
SOG Flash I
SOG Flash II

Lock up is pretty decent and none of mine have any blade play(at least not yet).

Now I'm not heavy using any of them but I do really like the blades I own from them

But everyone's preference is different.

I don't own any SOGs personally, but that's mostly due to their use of AUS8 steel. I've had two other blades (from a different manufacturer) made of it before I knew better and both were awful for taking or keeping an edge. Those past experiences are enough to keep from from buying any other blade with that steel.

I like their fixed blade knives more than their folders. I had 2 Government models, a Flash 2 and a Trident Mini folder. The folders had a bit of blade play, but not too bad. I actually really enjoyed the Flash 2 though. I will say this, my Flash 2 and Trident Mini were like razors right out of the box. I have a Gov Tac and really like it. I got it on sale for $80 and well worth it imo. I would love to see some higher grade steel options from SOG in the future. I'd like to see a Tech Bowie with something like 154CM.

3 out of 5 Sogs i have purchased have been lemons. I bought a Flash II which was a decent knife but nothing to write home about. The Seal Pup is pretty cool for camping. The Flashback was horrid, it was so tight to close that it went to the bottom of the drawer pretty quickly. I was using the Trident to cut some decent size rope and a piece of the steel liner popped out, it had probably come damaged but thats something that should have not been shipped to me. The Sog throwing knife with the spear tip that screws on broke immediately. Ill admit im not very good at throwing knives, but i threw it at a tree and the handle made contact with the tree slightly and broke off at the threads pretty violently. I bought my sister a Twitch II and she said it was cute.... If Sog had any customer service to help deal with issues i would still purchase them because they have cool designs, but i have been hung up on, and emails have not been responded to. I will never purchase or refer people to their products again.

Only have experience with three. One a jungle primitive, other a seal/seal pup (not owned seals, handled) and my brother got an assisted opening lockback. LOCKBACK! Dumbest idea ever. Would never completely lock from the assist. Fixed blade are decent. I've seen a few other folders from family that owned them. Looks like most stuff is decent but it's all over in quality. Some great, some just okay.

Seal is great, jungle primitive is "good". Saw on the back is stupid. Not a fan of their serrations either. Too much teeth, not enough cutting edge in them.
