What are you paying for when you buy Emerson?

Yea..Phill Hartsfield

I carry a Benchmade Spec Op CQC 7 regularly..the F+F is better than the Emersons I've handled..
.I like and appreciate the design and materials, I like Ernie and his mission statement, however... I can see why some feel they are over priced when compared to some of the competitive options..I won't pay the premium for one..but I get the philosophy.

Agreed they are in the higher end of the price spectrum for bang for the buck . It's all a matter of opinion but feel it's worth it for what a Emerson has to offer . Zt has and I've owned many ZT/Emerson collaborations and fit and finish is better and consistency in the fit and finish department also . But even with that being said "I" feel there just a knock off and when you put a Emerson in your hand it feels like it's an extension of your arm . I don't get that with a Zt even though I do like them and they do feel good in hand .
Anyway just my 2 cents and everyone has different values , needs and wants for there hard earned money and respect everyone's views and opinions here . I've never owned any other Emerson collaborations other then ZT so I have no opinion or experience with them .

For the vast majority of buyers, what they are buying is feeling good. And that's not a bad reason to buy an Emerson or any knife. As I say on BF about once week, all an Emerson - or any knife - does is just cut stuff. Its not black magic.

Emersons are strong and durable. They make a good, solid - albeit rudimentary - knife....
...Emersons don't objectively do much of anything better than other knives. But they can make certain guys feel good, and that's why people spend the money on them. Same with Sebenzas and ZTs and everything else. Its mostly about feeling good, and feeling good is better than feeling not good.
This.
I had to draw a knife for protection and it was not Emerson but had a wave on it, so I'll be glad to pay the extra cost for the wave feature. Other than this, I like the ergos and absolutely love tanto style blade with the way Ernie does it's chisel grind.
It works fine for me for what I'm using it and this is all I care. I'm very happy with the steel and how they do the hardening, same goes for my BM Griptillians.
I don't find them terribly expensive, bought mine CQC7 for $120+ if I remember correctly NIB from an online retailer. Not to trash any of the new or trendy companies, but to me it's a much better price for a non-metal scales on a knife with protected lock, with wave feature and ergos that fit me just fine.

I'm a HUGE ZT fan but even they would admit they do not build knives to the level that CRK does. Do they both look and function perfectly, yes; but CRK builds knives that you need precision tools to be able to measure how precise the machining is. It's total overkill. If ZT tried to achieve the same degree of accuracy, they would cost as much as a Sebenza.

agree completely, but that precision and extreme tight tolerances adds nothing in the way of use and cutting tasks, etc. really doesn't even add much in the way of longevity of the tool by much. my point was you can get titanium frame lock a

appreciate your feedback and yeah you are right.

To be fair, he lets Kershaw handle his cheap Chinese imports...

I have to use dial calipers on any of my ZTs to see just how centered the blade is or to determine if a scale/liner is "proud" anywhere.

Just buy those Emersons you want. There is something about an Emerson in hand that no other knife replicates. People complain about the fit and finish on them but honestly there is like a rugged soul to these knives. It's like how each custom knife is not exactly the same each Emerson is slightly unique in its own little way.

There is just this feeling of raw beauty you don't get with knives like ZT, BN odr even my beloved Spydercos

I feel the same way, I've pretty much tried a little bit of everything and nothing compares or comes close to Emerson's.

So I'm the only one that's disgusted by an Emerson?

Not at all.
Emerson Designs: Awesome (many of them anyway)
Emerson Execution: Atrocious (really a slap in the face for the money)

I tried about a dozen before I came to my senses. This is most of them but I also had an older Combat Karambit and trainer. I still have an EDC-1 due to its collectibility. This Chinese Multitasker tool is the best made of the Emerson branded products that I have owned.

Glad I'm not alone, that said I really love my old cqc7. The ergos are killer, but quality wise it's on par with a shiv made from a file with a bench grinder 😂

Want to sell it ?

I actually gave it away about 6hrs after unboxing it. My grandfather is on his last leg of life, and has always been a die hard emerson fan. He literally almost shit himself when I gave it to him. His reaction was worth 10x the purchase price.
