What are you watching & why? (splain)

The season finale of The Diplomat is living in my head. Talk about a cliffhanger. Dammit...
I read some reviews based upon your praise of the show...but the reviews seemed all over the place. Still, I'm going to give it a look based upon your recommendation.

Freevee, right?

Not too surprised - it's not the kind of show everyone is going to love.

It's on Netflix. Maybe Freevee too?

I probably confused it with something else someone mentioned here on freevee. Now I can't remember what that was. No matter.

Thanks, B.

I'm not currently subscribed to Netflix. I usually wait until one of my shows comes back around.

Watched the original "Superman" again yesterday on OPC. I was surprised by some things I might have known once but had forgotten.

First, I had totally forgotten that the story and screenplay were written by . . . Mario Puzo, of "Godfather" fame! I never think of him being associated with that movie, much like I sometimes forget that his buddy Francis Ford Coppola wrote the screenplay for "Patton."

I forgot what a complete unknown Christopher Reeve was before that movie. Since he IS Superman, he is supposedly the star of the movie. But he was listed on the credits below both Marlon Brando AND Gene Hackman, because no one would have known who he was. I also forgot what an intelligent and talented actor he was.

And I forgot that it was directed by Richard Donner of "Lethal Weapon" fame. I think it can be argued that "Superman" is among the most influential films of the past 50 years. Big, expensive, blockbuster comic book superhero movies were essentially unknown back in 1978, before "Superman." Warner Brothers took a huge $55 million gamble with "Superman," and it paid off in spades, earning back MANY times its original investment, and its financial success undoubtedly also led Warner to greenlight the "Batman" franchise a few years later. Now this genre is obviously a huge moneymaker for Hollywood.

I never saw the movie in the theater. My entire family went to see it . . . except for me. I was weird back then (but NOW I'm normal! 😂). I never saw it until many years later, on "cable TV." It's still not one of my favorite films , , , but I enjoyed it yesterday. 7 out of 10.

I watched an abysmally awful western the other day. It kept popping up on my Netflix recommendations so I finally caved and watched it even though I thought it looked bloody stupid.

Well, it WAS bloody stupid. Great cast - Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone, Russel Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lance Henriksen, Keith David. Awful waste of great talent. Gene Hackman was the only fella worth watching.

I had to cleanse the palate with something awesome so I watched the Hatfields and McCoys again with Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, and Powers Boothe. So damn good.

If any of you are considering the second season of "Perry Mason" on HBO / MAX...don't do it.

What a convoluted, disjointed waste of time...made even worse by the inevitable social messaging prevalent in virtually all shows anymore.

Ugh.

I remember that one. And yeah, that's an hour and a half of my life I really wish I could get back.

I actually enjoyed that movie as a guilty pleasure. DSFDF? 🤷‍♂️

I couldn't make it out of the first season. A bigger fan of the original TV series with Raymond Burr, and the books by Erle Stanley Gardner, you would be hard pressed to find. I even like the old Warner movies from the 1930s. But the producers of this HBO series apparently went out of their way to irritate fans of the Burr show and the books, and screwed up the HBO series in ways I could not have even imagined were possible if I hadn't seen it. On top of everything else, the wokeness is at level 11. YURZ!!!

Better Call Saul Spoilers!!!!!! Dont read!!!!

Better Call Saul. Man what a great series. Loved it from start to finish. Still actually have a few of the black and white episodes to finish, cant wait. Was so fricken nervous for Kim since shes not in Breaking Bad but luckily she jus dipped out like the brilliant character she was. Despite the characters from BB being significantly older I got over it and still loved all of them,,,esp Mike. It wasn't as exciting as BB but it was way more realistic. All the symbolism and theatrical emphasis on this and that was terrific. Lalo was awesome. The dude really instilled fear esp when he showed up at the end and killed Howard wow! Crazy both him and Lalo were under all those blue cooks! Would of been cool had they the foresite to also somehow have Hank discover those two bodies in BB.
Im gonna rank it #3 in series I could watch again and again.

1. Breaking Bad
2. 24
3. Saul
4. The office
5. House

Time to start Game of Thrones with my squeeze. Have put it off long enough.

Good shows! Didn't like the way Saul ended, for Saul/Jimmy or Kim. But still loved the show overall.

Love & Death, an HBOMax miniseries. Just got caught up on all 3 episodes and I am really liking it. I guess that these days its a fad making these kinds of for TV series based on infamous past murder cases and some of these, like this one and the Staircase which was the Michael Peterson's murder trial in Durham, NC; have had competing productions on other streaming networks but I like the HBO productions better.

I was not here in the early 80's so I don't know how close to reality this one is or the Peterson's one was but I like the nostalgia and the reminiscence of those earlier simpler decades. Both the younger Olson sister as Candy Montgomery and Jesse Plemons as Allan Gore are very good. Of course I have seen both of these actors in other films (notably Jesse in Breaking Bad / El Camino) but I had not realized how young they both still are IRL!

Plemons first hit fame in "Friday Night Lights" at 18. He's 35 now and married to Kirsten Dunst with two kids. All growed up!

Okay just started rurouni kenshin again (Netflix)......

Based on an anime but live action... not sure why I like these movies so much but I do

This is my 4th time starting the 3 movie series... maybe it's because of the K20 lol
