What are you watching & why? (splain)

I just watched (and will re-watch) the new documentary about the Blue Angels that just started airing on Prime.

If you liked "Top Gun" (1986) & "Top Gun: Maverick" (2022), you've gotta watch this too!!!

I'm not naive and understand that this was "puff piece" filmed & produced by the Navy designed to make everyone associated with the Navy & the Blue Angels look good but the main thing that I took away from the show was the skill, dedication and precision with which the pilots fly their aircraft, always within inches and seconds of disaster.

What also impressed me was how they and their support staff strive to achieve excellence in carrying out their duties -- something that I once tried to do in my chosen professions-- and (as corny as it may sound) it made me proud to see that there are men & women like these who serve our country.

Hurraaah!!! 🇺🇸

Skill, and cool heads

I got to hang around with and meet the USAF "Thunderbirds" years ago when I was doing a stint at our air wing at Homestead AFB. Cool bunch of guys and amazing pilots. They put on a hell of a show.

Been a long time since I've been to the air show at Quonset in RI, but saw both the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds perform there, and thought the Thunderbirds were better.

Reminds me. Gotta start watching "1923" with Harrison Ford which is a sequel to the great "1883" with Sam Elliott. "FROM" is good and should have season 3 late summer or fall. Spooky one for sure.

Watched some Track and Field taking place in Oregon on Peacock this afternoon. Heating up towards the Paris Olympics this summer. Joe Kovacs, 2nd best shot putter in the world is close to PB form, so he should push Crouser and even have a chance to win. I root for Joe because he's only 6' to Crouser's 6'-7", so he's got to make it up on power.

Finished the second season of "Outer Range" on Amazon / freevee...it was watchable but really doesn't move the needle much and leaves the season with nothing much having been resolved. (Not that I had high expectations.)

Not much out there of interest at the moment.

Started watching Yellowjackets last week and finished the season 2 finale today. I really enjoyed the show. It was dark, twisted and hilarious. Christina Ricci is awesome in it and so are the rest of the 90's girls. The show bounces back between two timelines and the younger actors do an incredible job of mimicking the older actors.

Shades of Lord of the Flies, Alive and a touch of the supernatural. It has an awesome 90's soundtrack too.

I never finished season 1 of "Outer Range." What's in the hole? 🤔

I was pissed that I watched as much of it as I did. I like Josh Brolin but I have no idea what that abomination was :)

Watching MI5 on Britbox. I watched several episodes from the first four seasons on public TV several years ago. Wanted to watch more, but could only find it on services I didn’t want to pay for. I thought the writing was pretty good in the first four seasons, and I always like a chance to watch Nicola Walker. It is still watchable in seasons five and six, although the writing has slipped and the convoluted soap-opera plots can tend toward the jump-the-sharky.

^^^^^

We watched the first few episodes and then got tired of the repetition. Have enjoyed (in other series) the work of many of the actors starring in this show. Might give it a go again at some point, but not sure about that.

Just tried watching the new season of The Boys. I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons for the mindless fun entertainment but I couldn't make it through the second episode of this new season. There were hints it was going this direction last season but alas it's officially here. I realize I'm sounding like a broken record at this point lol, but let's just say you can definitely tell it's an election year because the entire "plot" is now dedicated to paper thin political shoehorning.
