What are you watching & why? (splain)

Just tried watching the new season of The Boys. I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons for the mindless fun entertainment but I couldn't make it through the second episode of this new season. There were hints it was going this direction last season but alas it's officially here. I realize I'm sounding like a broken record at this point lol, but let's just say you can definitely tell it's an election year because the entire "plot" is now dedicated to paper thin political shoehorning.
I didn't make it beyond a couple of episodes of the first season...but the ad that I saw for the current season made it pretty clear just what the agenda was.

(Not surprised, but definitely not amused by this constant bombardment.)

I was pissed that I watched as much of it as I did. I like Josh Brolin but I have no idea what that abomination was :)

I found out what's "in the hole" but the show still doesn't interest me.

Started to watch Episode 1 of Season 2 & turn it off in just a few mins.

Sounds like I didn't miss anything by watching any more of it.😉

definitely not for everyone, but we watched Poor Things the night before last and it made me realize that I haven't seen a really good quality piece of cinema for quite a long time. Outstanding costume and set design, cinematography, and general cohesiveness. The kind of movie that really sticks with ya.

I'm surprised you enjoyed it. I was really looking forward to it but just felt duped after I watched it. Again, it was another movie that was ruined by the "constant bombardment" that Blues Blues mentioned.

Men bad.

Watched a few episodes of "King of Collectibles: The Goldin Touch" on Netflix last night since it was covering comic industry stuff.

Had no idea who Goldin was since I don't follow sports memorabilia. But some of the prices on things like jerseys, cards, etc. were astronomical. I wonder how long that industry will be around and who will still collect cards of players from 75-100 years ago.

I can't imagine that kids of today will value something that they have no knowledge or connection to. I'm Gen X and I wouldn't spend a dime on any of it, but that may be because the only sport I follow is MMA.

If a show based on a comic book (especially one written over a decade ago by a military historian) about superheroes as obvious caricatures of fascism seems like an attack on current politics... the problem is probably with current politics, not the show or the comic.

More on topic, just finished watching Frieren. The comic is probably the best being published right now. It has some fantasy tropes, but the best description I've seen is that the primary antagonist isn't demons or dragons, it's the passage of time. The show isn't quite as nuanced, but it's still easily top 5 animated series ever.

Maybe you shouldn't presume what my issues were...

OK, I'll bite, what were your issues, if not political? The previous poster you were replying to said "election year.... paper thin political shoehorning" and you replied "pretty clear just what the agenda was." There are main characters named Homelander and Stormfront. Subtle this is not. And if you're gonna reprimand me for drama in a thread that you contributed to the drama... I'm willing to leave it at this if you are.

Might I suggest eating the bugs? Apparently they are delicious.

Look, I've investigated neo-nazi, white supremacist and far right organizations, (for criminal violations, not thought crimes), as a duly sworn federal law enforcement officer. I've put the time in. I've also lost family to the Holocaust.

If I didn't particularly care for a TV series based upon a comic book, (which I stopped watching a couple of episodes into the first season), and didn't care for the presentation of the teaser for the new season, it doesn't necessarily mean I want to go down the road of explaining what my particular issues are...especially because this isn't the political sub-forum and not intended for such.

Let's leave it at that I didn't care for the show nor its presentation.

And the sauna scene just came on as I was hitting the post button.
Yeah. It's ridiculous. It's like the show is on a "Howard Stern" downward spiral.

"Maybe we can get people to talk about the show by trying to shock them? That works right? Then we don't need to worry about creating an interesting storyline!"

Next, they'll have to resort to disgusting pimple popping scenes.
