Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
This is considered one of the best IPAs in the country right now along with their 90 Minute IPA. I haven't had it yet, but it is very high on my "to try" list. The next time I go to BevMo I am going to pick up a pint. I'd also like to try their 120 minute IPA. I don't think I will like it since it has 20% ABV (and I think it would be a little too harsh for my tastes- I like beer not hard liquor), but it should be an experience. Or rather, an exbeerience.... (please don't shoot me...)
I had an AleSmith IPA tonight (a San Diego brewery) and I liked it a lot. I would definitly buy it again.
Sam Adams is what got me interested in better beers as well. I never liked beer water like Bud, Coors, Miller, Corona, etc... (no offense to fans of these beers, but they are too bland for me- not that I think I am better than you, it's just a matter if personal preference). Sam Adams was the first beer that I liked and it inspired me to try some of the craft and micro brews. I always thought I hated beer until I tried Sam Adams. Sam Adams isn't as good as the true craft beers (thought it was a microbrew at one time), but it is a great stepping stone. A gateway. I still use Sam Adams as a fallback beer. Not bad stuff at all. I like all of their varieties that I have tried (but I haven't tried Sam Adams Light and have no desire to do so).
I'd like to add that I like hoppy IPAs during the day and with a meal. I like the strong hoppy taste when I am eating food- it makes the food taste better and has a great effect on the palette between bites. I tend to like smaller beers during the day too (and by small I mean 5-7% not 3-5%), as my goal is not to get drunk, but to enjoy the taste. When I am about to go to bed (like right now) I prefer bigger beers (8-11%) and stouts versus IPAs. I think stouts (and porters) have a better flavor when not combined with food, and at night I want to get a little buzz going to help me wind down and go to sleep.
My palette has a lot of development left, but the learning process is what's so much fun.
