Favorite fixed blade by miles is the top knife here (Cold Steel Kitchen Classic). Costs all of eight or ten dollars. Cuts circles around about any other knife I have for ease of cut and accuracy. Not great steel (I wish it was 3V like the hunter bellow it) but because it is so thin she flies through stuff. It came literally hair whittling. I have three of them . . . they ALL came that sharp. I have sheaths for all three.
Folding ? Inexpensive ? Best cutting ? . . . oh that's easy
SAK
and of the SAKs the super thin ones (with a major thinning of the bevels). Little lasers I tell you. Brilliant cutters. But only after the bevel mod. Fifteen to eighteen dollars.
OK, ok not what you wanted to hear / see
Next up Boker Plus Titan
Ti handle, 440C that feels great to sharpen and use I REALLY LIKE the particular 440C blade in this knife. Ergos and lock action (smoothness and ease of use) so much better than any of my Cold Steel extra mother tri ad locks.
For what you get for fifty bucks I feel like Boker is paying me to own this knife.
If we're talking "budget" budget, then Ontario's Utilitac IIs are excellent, as are the new Pro Lites from CS. I also recently picked up a Kershaw Grinder for all of $18, and it's holding up just fine so far under standard edc use (opening packages, breaking down cardboard boxes, etc.). Some of the best bang-for-buck options were the discontinued Cold Steel AUS-8 folders (Voyagers and the like), but those have pretty well dried up now, so I guess they no longer count.
Can't go wrong with the new BD-1 Byrds. RATs. Kershaw Link. Kershaw Emerson line. Real Steel anything. Zancudo and Avispa just came out in D2 for under $50.
Rough Rider Deer Hunter model. Out of the box sharpness is as good as any knife I've ever bought and that is saying something. Very aggressive cutter and it is traditional and big and locks up very well. Less than 25 bucks and very well made. keepem sharp
