What Beer?

There is an old-time soda shop around the corner from where I work. Reeds Ginger Ale, Boylans Birch Beer and anything by Faygo and Sioux City are all good choices for Ale's and Beer.

I drink champagne at weddings and wine if a recipe calls for it or if someone else is ordering. I've never been drunk and I can count how many beers I have had in the past two years on one hand. No real reason. If I get around to it, I might have to try some of these recommendations.

A variety, but Guinness is a reliable standby.

I treat myself to a Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout about once a year.

Thumbs-up on Sqoon's selection, tho I seldom drink sugar water anymore
Sqoon, have you had Virgil's Root Beer? Wowsa.

Went to get some brews last night, and I'm trying to drop a few pounds right, so I get Coors light and it's pretty bad stuff. I got up to the checkout and said out loud " I just can't do it". I'd have almost rather not have had beer than to pay for that stuff. I did get some more Killians Irish Red, so much for dropping weight by drinking light beer. I did drink to much to drive, so I walked to the movie theater.

I guess I must just be simple minded, but Bud light is usually the first one I reach for in the fridge. I've tried some of the fancier beers but they seem to bitter to me. I'm still a young pup so maybe my taste buds just havn't matured enough yet?

On a HOT day just about ANY ICE COLD beer tastes great!

At the local Irish pub that served SERIOUSLY HOT sausage burgers...ONLY a PROPERLY PULLED Guiness would do!

Just to enjoy a beer from a bottle, Bass, Stella Artois, Spaten, Harpoon, Shipyard and yup Killian's Red all are good!

Santa Fe Pale Ale!
Haven't had that tasty stuff prolly since 1998. Perfectly balanced with a nice plate of blue corn green chile enchiladas from The Shed. *pine*

Lite Beer: :barf:

I admit it, I'm a beer snob. There, I said it.
Not necessarily a connoisseur, but I don't like crappy-tasting beer, and more isn't necessarily better.
I don't need them nasty empty calories. If I'm gonna pack on a few extra calories I'm gonna ENJOY it. Quality over quantity on my bar tab, please. I'd rather pay twice as much for one good beer than two lousy ones. Of course if the budget were unlimited, two good'uns, please. But it seldom is these days.

I don't drink diet soda for the same reason. Either the real thing (see Sqoon's post) OR better yet, some seltzer and a big splash of real juice. Cals down, oversimplified sugars down, nasty chems down, vits up.
(oops, this isn't the weight-loss thread?)

All that said... occasionally I've been known to order Bud in a Bottle, especially after landing back at the edge of the 'verse after a dry month.

 No, you just know what you like. I will only drink Orchid Petal pale Breakfast Ale with my bald eagle eggs and truffles. :D

Nice stuff there M2HSSR-910SBK. I have a Stone Cali-Beligique IPA that I bought some time ago and haven't opened it yet. I don't really stick to 1 beer, I just keep trying.

Haven't had much beer lately, last was from a local microbrewery which was Two Brother's IPA.

Yeah the Cali-Beligique is very good. It uses belgian yeast. I have had the Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Wild. It uses the Westmalle yeast strain so it is a lot like beligique. I don't stick to one beer either, I sample a lot of different ones. If I like one I will have it again sometime, but never solely that one.

Here is what I had last night:

Mmm BEER.

Let's see... Usually I grab either Newcastle or Stella Artois and then some beer from our friends to the South, either Pacifico or Negra Modelo (but only if I have limes). If it's really hot out I go for the Red Stripe.

Also, I am a big fan of smaller labels like Alesmith, Dogfish Head and Stone Brewing. Alesmith does a barleywine thing called Old Numbskull that is flat out badass. It can be an evening in itself, so if you pick one up be sure that you're somewhere comfortable for a while. Stone's Double Bastard is fun, too.

If ever I come across any Barleywine style ale then I snap that sucker up. They are potent but tasty as hell. I guess Scotch ale comes close, so I get those too. Appeals to my percentage of Scottish genes, but I'll pass on the haggis.

Some Belgian beers are great too, when I'm feeling flush with $ (not often): Piraat, Chimay, that sort of thing.

Ain't beer grand?

i'm not a drinker.

so either henry weinhardts draught style rootbeer.

or maybe a ibc, stewarts, or any sasparilla brand.

i also like the bottled coca cola as well.

Just had an Anchor Porter (very good) and a Rogue Dead Guy (a good stand-by classic for me). Not a bad way to end a day.

I like all kinds of beer, but right now it's gotta be Genny Bock. Great beer, cool packaging, and it's made locally.
