What benchmade to buy?

Hello all, This is my first post here. I've been trying to decide witch Benchmade knife I should go with. It's going to be an EDC knife that I use mainly at work (I work at Sportsman's Warehouse btw) or just around the house or maybe self defense if needed. I've been a big fan of Benchamde knives for quite sometime. And can't decide witch one I want to buy next. I had a 550HG Griptillian but someone helped me lose that. :grumpy: so I've been carrying a Smith and Wesson Swat assisted open for a few months now and its getting to the point where i really miss my Benchmade. So anyway let me get on with what I've been looking at...

550HG-Griptillian
615- Mini Rukus
710-
740- dejavoo
940

Those are the models I was interested in. Like I said I previously had the griptillian but lost it at college. :grumpy: I was leaning more towards the 940 or the 615 I've handled both of them at work and cant decide witch one I like more. Don't get me wrong I would love to have all of them but Money is a little tight and can't afford to have them all so one will have to do for now. :( So I'm asking you guys to help me out. Thanks in advance!

You can't go wrong with any of these. But if I had to choose, the dejavoo would be the winner. BTW - Welcome to the forums. Enjoy your stay.

I do like the dejavoo its probably one of the smoothest opening knives Ive ever touched. Thanks for the welcome btw!

I'd get the 550HG Grippy.

I loved that knife! it was great. I just didn't know if I should get it again?
But we'll see.

For me, if I am getting a benchmade it is going to have an AXIS lock. I also dislike aluminum handles. For me it is a toss up between the 950 rift and the 14205. Both are about the perfect size for me and very smooth. I have a 710 and while it is the classic, I don't care for it nearly as much as the 2 I mentioned. It is the first Benchmade with the AXIS lock and to me the newer models have refined the AXIS lock much more.

Ok so that's 2 votes for the 710, I've never held one before but they look really nice!
this forum needs a poll option.

I love the Rift, I feel in love with it when I saw it at work. But it is one of the more expensive ones, But i do agree with you on the axis lock, I would like to have that over the liner lock, that's about the only thing I don't like about the dejavoo.

Which ever Benchmade you decide on, check out the prices on-line. I think you may save some money going that route, unless you get an employee discount at Sportsman's Warehouse.

I got a Benchmade mini ambush for $50. It's a good knife. Sharp and strong. Plus since you can open and close it with one hand it's invaluable for utility work.

Im getting a pretty good deal 60% off witch is a special deal i get once a year. ;)

If that's red box thanks but no thanks, I'd like to stick with American made.
If Blue box, I'll look into it. :)

I love all of those.

710 is great. It's long, thin, and very durable. Great EDC with the D2 steel.

the Deja vu was one of the smoothest opening Benchmades I ever played with. Great knife, but it does have a liner lock.

The Mini-Rukus would be my least out of that list. Just too big and not so sheeple friendly.

The grip. you just can't go wrong with. I really miss mine. I sold it to my younger brother and he still uses it.

The 940 is probably my favorite out of that list. I like S30V a fair amount. The green alum and purple Ti spacer are just great. The modified sheep's foot blade is long enough to get any job done, yet not be over sized. Plus, it's probably the most sheeple friendly knife of that bunch.

Any one you choose, will be a great knife. Good luck finding the one that best suits you.

I think I might just go with the Griptillian. I really do miss that knife.

I'd go with the 710 or mini-Rukus. They're both high-quality, high-dollar, Axis knives that any user would be proud to own. Here's why those two: you're 60% discount will save you more come the day you wish you'd gotten one. Use it on them, I say. Then, since the Grip can be bought for a reasonable $55 to $65 anyway, get that one later at full, on-line, price (unless you can get the 60% discount several times throughout the year).

It's a toss up between the 710 and the 615. I happen to love the Rukus design, so my bias would be that knife. But either one of them would be an excellent choice.

I carried one for a day. A co-worker and I swapped. It's as fine as can be. Yet, as you say, the Axis lock would put it up in-league with the 710 and Rukii.

He JBunch!

I worked at the Sportsmans warehouse in Lewisville, Texas from open to close. I miss it so much. Don't take advantage of working there! It was the best 4 years of my life. I also pro-formed 2 BMs while I worked there. I also worked behind the Gift bar, so I was able to play with knives every day. I used my Griptillan and 710 the most.

Check out the spydercos yall should have too.

Enjoy working there. I miss it a lot.

I'd reccomend the 710 as well. Benchmade really got the design right on that one. I've owned over a hundred knives in my years here at BladeForums, and traded away most of them. The 710 has stuck with me since the first few months I really got into knife collecting. I have also been struck by the BM520 and BM913 lately, both are also really nice designs for EDC.

On a side note, I would recommend not even having the idea of self defense with a knife in your mind. So many things can go wrong in a knife fight (starting with HIV). I made the choice long ago to carry my gun when I was going some place I could not trust everybody else, but if I didn't have that I will never use my knife for self defense.
