What Brand Makes Good Fixed Blade Knives?

If you're looking for a general use, production fixed blade, I'd recommend taking a look at some of Svord's offerings. While they are known for their peasant knives, they make some classy, yet utilitarian full tang, fixed blades. They have really mundane names, but their "Deluxe Sporting" line offers several different blade profiles in their awesome L6 tool steel, it's great stuff, and not stainless, if that floats your boat. Prices on them are reasonable. I'm still a big Fallkniven fan and think the F1, has one of the most useful blade profiles, and is a great size for most tasks, they've got the larger, more intimidating S1 and A1 models that are pretty indestructible. VG-10 is one of my favorite stainless steels, it's worth a shot IMHO, even if you're a die hard carbon fan. The Kraton handles are very tactile, and slightly overdone IMO, but practical.

I think I got enough information, thanks guys. I'm going to look into some of your suggestions but I'm having a lot of trouble finding a knife of the right design. I saw that one that looked perfect, but alas the post was old and the knife had been sold. As to why I want a bowie, I just do. I want to try out all kinds of knives before I decide which is the best for me, and a bowie seems like it has a really good design. And it's a piece of American history, so why not. I also want to say that I've been talking to a guy who is willing to make me a custom knife based on my own design and so far his sketches look really great. I'll most likely get him to make me a knife instead of being disappointed in every website I go to. Maybe I'm too picky.

I won't be following this thread anymore so if a moderator is looking you can go ahead and close it.
