What brings your here? What keeps you here?

Knives knives knives

and my new leatherman wave!;)

Forgot to add what brought me here.

After my father passed, i was hoping to find who made the custom he passed down to me. Never did figure it out, but I was sure better for having found this place.

Love of knives. Overwhelming life-long love of knives.
I found this place doing a search on what else? BLADES!
This is the best place to get information on knives. Past knives, new knives, new manufacturers who will hopefully bring out better knives at lower price points.:p

Mike Dye was always talking about the forum so I started reading in it here and there and slowly became hooked, I stayed because of all the porn, oooops, wrong forum.

I stayed because of the knowledge you pick up about knives around here and you get answers to questions here faster then you could by any other means. and you get to see the good and bad sides to products without (to much) bias.

I have to thank: Clay, Gollnick, tonyccw and a few others over in the Bali area for getting me addicted to balis now, I drove 2 hours today to a place just to see what kind of balis I might could find there that I couldnt here, didnt find not even one, not even a freakin jag. geez this addiction, and it's catching to one of my friends had to have a BM 42 once he played with mine, that was 3 weeks ago, now he has 3 more BM Balis, I think BM put something in thier steel that gets airborne or something.,

Anyway it's just all fun.

Volume spanky, something I'm sure you can identify with...lol

I was around for the glory days of RecDotKnives and Knifeforums. Used to hang out in the old parachat before we went to MIRC.

The came the downfall of RecDotKnives and the ColdSteel forums so Knifeforums was about the only place to be.

Sometime later Knifeforums (under its old ownership) seemed to go downhill extremely fast, it was an ugly (although interesting) time there. Mike and Spark decided to start fresh with Bladeforums so people could once again have a decent place to hang out. We were kept updated on the progress of this forum starting up because Mike and Kevin were in chat alot....never see them anymore.

Anyways, the night Bladeforums began, we were in chat for the opening and those of us there were among the first 10 or 15 members. I remember everybody racing to be the first member. Dont remember who it was, but I think it was a lady who went by the name "DC" (first besides Spark and Mike). Thats how I got here, those were the good days of the forums.

I stay here out of habit mostly, and a few of my new friends I have made over time. Every once in a while some new and useful info pops up, and its worth keeping an eye out for.

I found BFC while doing a search for reviews on the Emerson commander. For the first few weeks all I did was lurk and use the search function because essentially that's all I ever actually need to find the info I want. There is so much that has been covered in here over 4 years.

All the differing opinions and takes on various knives (old and new) is what keeps me here.

Found BFC by doing a search about a knife.

I stay because of all the great makers and forum members.
Always something interesting going on.

Now if all the folks that talk trash about BFC would leave it would be great. :)

Like Bok, I was searching for info about the Emerson Commander that I had just seen on the back of Combat Knives. I found a thread here, saw that there were several thousand members and decided to register. It's all gone uphill, or downhill in the case of my wallet, from there. I have always liked knives, but before BFC I had no idea of what goes into them. Now I know a little(very little) about knives. I've actually got a few of my non-knife friends to buy quality knives instead of those cheapies. I've conivinced a couple of guys to get Spydercos and a couple to get Benchmades. One guy bought an Emerson LaGriffe after I showed him mine. That always makes me feel good. Thanks Bladeforums.:D

I just happened upon BladeForums when I was surfing the net looking for info on knives. I lurked for quite awhile and then decided it would be better if I were taking part.

Why I have stayed is because of all the great information, the fact that I get to see and talk about knives and the people associated with knives and because of the friends that I have made on this forum.

I've always had a love of knives, you know the story- a young boy getting his first knife at age 7 or 8,etc etc etc...

And I had always had a knife,too...a few years back I found myself addicted to 'The Knife Collectors Show'. Watched it everytime it was on. About the only thing I learned was that Tom O'Dell and Shawn Leflar are some real high class entertainment ;)
I do distinctly remember them selling for a short time kershaw's,and a few Gigands that Fred Carter designed. Not bad knives at all,but I was stuck on the flea market knives.Poor quality, made in China or Pakistan, buy a gross for 10 bucks-you know.

So one day I was surfing on the 'net, looking for deals on these, and every time I typed my query into the search engines,I would get results from this site, and boy it pissed me off! It was a nuisance, until my patience grew thin (About five minutes later) I clicked on the link, and BAM! I'm hooked.

Now,I still don't know everything there is to know about knives, and never will. I don't think anyone does, with the exception of maybe Paul Basch, and AG Russell (two real life walking talking knife dictionaries)...also,coincidentally, AG's site was the other web page that got me hooked. I immediately subscribed to his catalog.

Fast forward a little bit and I find myself moving here to Springdale,AR...the come to realize that HEY! There's a really cool knife store here!

Then there was chat...boy I remember my first days in there (ok,maybe more like a year and a half) where I was harassed relentlessly about anything and everything whenever I popped in...my efforts paid off,and last year I was made a full fledged BASTID. Got the plaque and everything (and they taught me the secret handshake ;) ).

I have since made a whole lot of friends,who I cant possibly list,but I will try...PFF,Richard,Maxtheknife,Crayola,Samhell,Jeremy Reynolds,Jerry Fisk (hell of a guy),Red,Shiv,Vampire Gerbil,Kit 'Dont call me Harold ' J Carson,Tim Herman,JW Smith (really a better maker than kit,but dont tell him I said that ;) ),Susie,ChatCat (max's sister-she's got a real cute daughter :D ),and the list goes on and on-all friends,except for Gus Kalanzis :p

What keeps me here? I dunno. I owe a lot to this place, and the people that frequent it(even at a quarter after 12 on a tuesday morning).Ive learned a lot about my favorite hobby,it helped me get a good job with a good company, and Ive made a few friends along the way.

Now try saying all that with one breath.

I also was doing a search on knives and stumbled upon this place. Lurked for awhile, then joined. Its crazy how little I knew and still know about knives. I find myself learning everyday. Fact is, I can't go more than a few hours without getting online to see what I missed. I am truely thankfull for this place and the Great people I have met since I have been here. Thank you

Well, like most have said, I am a devout knife knut and I was doing a search on knives and this forum came up. The rest is history. I am now hooked on Bladeforums!!!!!! Thanks guys.

Thank the search engine Google. I was looking for information about my first knife (CRKT M16 Tanto partially serrated) and came across a huge forum... it's called BFC.
What keeps me here? The ever renewing knife related information, great community... I could ask any question I want and won't look (too) stupid ;) and I got to participate in pass-arounds. I use to hang around a computer forum but because there was no longer a need for me to keep track of all the information (it changes much too fast and I don't really have the resources to keep up in real life), I don't go back that often anymore. However, it's much stranger with knives. I might not have the resources to buy new knives and stuff, the interest is endless.

Always liked blades, carry one (at least) all the time (excluding air travel in recent months :grumpy: ) and it is nice to "be around" folks that share the same insanity ;). Bladeforms open hours are 24/7.

Great place to share passion and learn.

Great place to exchange knives, virtually without a risk of getting burned.

The "few" morons that post crap actually add some spice ;) and moderators do good job keeping them in line.

Maybe four years back I got on the net and found HI on the KF. I stayed up for 5 or 6 nights in a row reading the whole say 3000 posts on the KF HI forum and then made my first post, then my first purchase. I called and ordered a khukuri, got it in the next morning's mail, sent him a money order, played with it all day, called Uncle Bill again on day three and ordered two more which I got the following morning...

Then a few months later Bill followed Mike and Spark over to the new Bladeforums, and then Bill took a few ( 5-6 ) weeks off to go to Nepal, and I filled in til he got back. He was back for a few weeks when he had a heart attack so I continued filling in, and they kept me on as backup when things got back to normal ( NORMAL? ).

I used to read the other forums here til it got so busy on the HI forum. We are now up to 94,000+ posts and I believe will be the first makers forum to pass the 100,000 post mark in a few more weeks, give or take.

I recently passed the 5,000 post milestone myself. Amazing how much you can say without knowing hardly anything. Actually, I've learned a great deal over the years, just not sure that much of it relates to knives. I can tell you though that it's restored much of my faith in my fellow humans. And continues to do so. So Mike and Spark, thank you for keeping this place running - and for putting up with the aggravation the best of us cause each other at times. ( We won't mention the kind of place we hope trolls go ).

I found Knifeforums first and then I got here....

And what keeps me here? Pictures = The Gallery and the Knifemakers for sale sections.

i, like many others, found this place via google. its a great place, somewhere where I can talk about knives and be free from the normal perception that if you say the word 'knife' outside of a kitchen youre a psycho.

I love knives, I love beautiful blades and I love the fact that the knife is the one most important took you could ever carry.

I often think that the knife was probably the second or third tool ever invented by man (after a club and possibly a spear) yet still thousands and thousands of years later its still essential.

I like the people here, if the rest of the world were forced to read all our posts they wouldnt be anywhere near as pitifully paraniod about pocket knives

another great thing is that there always a thread about which I know something and can add something and theres always a thread from which I can learn something. I answer other peoples questins when I can and they answer mine when they can, its a great ethos and something thats rarely found in the 'real world'

cheers guys :D

Funny thing,I've been thinking about that tonight.

A fellow-knife-knut gave me the url.

What keeps me here?

Well I'm a knifenut since I can remember. I'll thing there is a strong up and down ( as can be seen with some companies); right now it's still going up, new companies emerging new knifemakers hitting the market.
I'll be here even after the wave has gone. (The reason is been a knifenut!)

Greetings

As far as I remember, I just bought a BM813 and needed to find some info about my new toy.
I did a search and found BFC!
What keeps me here? This is like a database of knife knowledge, great people and sometimes pics of fun stuff as well!
Even found another danish knife nut here!
