What brings your here? What keeps you here?

Like many others. . .found it surfin' the net. Something about knives ~ go figure ! :p I've been here since Oct 99 and finally registered the following month.

I've learned a tremendous amount. . .and not solely about knives. And have had the enjoyable opportunity to be able to interact with quite a few interesting characters during my stay !

Everyone has their own means of "floatin' their boat."

Personally, this place is one of my vices and think it's pretty cool ! :D

I am a part of the original gang. I was a member/moderator of KnifeForums in which Mike Turber was also. In '98, there was a big falling out between the KnifeForums owner (though it was not Jim Nowka) and Spark. That's when Mike got the idea of starting up his own forums, with Spark's assistance. Mike asked if Id be interested in moderating at the new site. I've been here ever since this site went live, and still ticking :) I've met a LOT of fellow knifenuts here and have made many friends, a lot of friendships made here are still going strong for me. I keep coming back for the same reason - to hang out with my friends here. Sometimes I end up learning something I wasn't previously aware of. Other times I find out about a knife that I've got to have. Most of all, I still have fun here, and that's what counts.

Before y2k I decided that I needed a great kickbutt knife and started searching. I found Mike and Spark on the old forums and followed to here.I lurked for a while then registered. I learned alot and since I have become as sick as the rest of the members here I stay.... :D

I learned about BFC from Bucks website . Ilove the information that can be learned, and appreciate the time members take to do research on the hobby and business of knife collecting.

Found BladeForums while surfing the web in search for information about SOG Knives. Well guess what ?! i found the info i was looking for, and added this forum to my favorites list right then and there. What keeps me here is simple the fellow formites that i have come to respect, and communicate with, and a vast knowledge of the oldest tool known to man!. Even though i still consider myself a newbe and make many blunders on the forums, ive learned so much, and look forward each day to visit my favorite site.:)

I stuck around
I was around the old Benchmadeforum in what(?) 96 or 97 and learned a lot about knives and martial arts there. I can say it influenced a lot of desicions pertaining to these subjects.
You are a great bunch of people.

God Bless James K. Mattis
and all those that are permanetly off-line

I can't remember how I got here, and sometimes wonder why I keep coming back.:) I wasn't online at the beginning. After lurking on all the forums that were operating two+ years ago, this is the one that had the best atmosphere. There are some damn good people here as well as some flaming idiots. Happily, most of the idiots don't hang around too long and those that do go on the ignore list. Overall, BladeForums is still the best of the bunch.

Back when I first got a cable modem over two years ago I got in the habit of just following links to see where they'd go (usually knife related) and I ended up here. Unfortunately my main focus then was on antiques and there wasn't (and still isn't, come on antique junkies, stand up and be counted!) much on here about antiques. So I really didn't start getting involved (to be perfectly honest I forgot about it) until about 8 months ago. Since then I've become hooked on the information available and the people AND looking for Dennis's latest reincarnation (a full time recreation).

Searching for the address to the old WoW store on Sunbeam brought me here ...What kept me here has passed and my interest in blades goes as far as my EDCs,I no longer yern for anything out there today..Bladeforums and USN have became a sidestop during my day of surfing..Ive just lost interest.

My early interest in Knives was an SD issue, since i was a scared College kid, with some legitimate concerns.. I was interested in Up grading my EDC and wanted to decide between a BM940 and a BM750 (i ended up with an 803).

I always enjoy a newbie posting a what new EDC type question so i can pass on some of the information i have accumulated from the people around here.

I didnt know much of the history surrounding Bladeforums until this thread, i had actually found knifeforums around the same time as bladeforums, but found surfing both to be repeditive and i like vbullien more.

What Keeps me here? I am a bored lonely college kid and i find some solace in this place. Also i always like to learn about New knives and new technology, and great day is when i discover a custom makers web page that i have never seen before. And Maybe in the future (if mike can talk provantus into making my designs) i will come here for business.

And of course there is the regular posting of a Snody, or blackwood knife

Somewhere around 2000 I was searching for knives on the internet, and found a listing for Bladeforums. I came by and ended up learning many things, and haven't stopped learning. I have ended up in a great place with a long list of great people that keep me coming back every day.

I came here because I was looking for something I considered creative to do. My reasoning was I was retired and a widower. The other thing was for 30 years I worked in the gun trades
I have enjoyed knives ever since Boy Scouts when I got my first folder. I also found with that folder the first good reason for safety such as liner locks. I managed to shut the knife on my finger and cut it down to the bone.
The reason I stay is that people will tell you what they think about whatever the subject is. They do not ever say that this is the only answer there is because I like it that way. They allow you to make decisions on your own.
Finally I know that no matter what time I access the forum it is here and I will get a answer pretty much within 24 hours. To me you can't beatthat.

I followed a link from somewhere and here I am. The reason I stay is cause if I have a question that I need a answer to I can find it here, if I want to see prototype's of knives that are coming out in the near future I can always find them here. If I want to ask the company about a product (ATC,Cammillus,Buck,Spyderco,ETC) I know I'll get an answer. And then theres the pass arounds, for the cost of shipping you can use a knife for a short time to see if you like it and give feedback to the maker. If you need to know about self defense or camping/survival outdoors type you can find answers here. If you like knives you need to be on this site.

I don't remember how I found the place...just surfing the web, most likely. But I found a wealth of information about knives, and a lot of great people with whom I share a common interest.

I hope it never goes away.:)

I showed up because Dexter Ewing said I should. Now you know who to blame:D Even though I have membership on other forums,BF is the one that is closest to my heart. Lotsa great folks and good knife content. What more could you ask for?

I was surfing and ended up at 1SKS and followed the link here. I lurked for a while and then finally joined. There are some really great people here and I have learned a lot. Thanks to everyone!!!

I got here searching the web for information on the Ontario Helles Belles that I was interested in at the time. I lurked for a little and then joined up and asked a question or two. I got lots of help and useful tips.
I stay because all of these fine people have sort of become my extended family. I have even had the pleasure to attend a small gathering of HI khukuri lovers up here in Maine this past May. It was great to put faces to names and share that same comraderie in person that I enjoy sharing here on the forum. Not to mention I LOVE knives in general, and there is soo much still to learn here. I will stay for as long as you all will have me!:D

I had been collecting knives for a couple of decades and had usually used the web to search for antique pieces (I am an Antique junkie). Somewhere along the way I had purchased a military issue Aitor knife and I was looking for a commercial copy for comparison. That was in 1999 shortly after Catoctin Cutlery had gone out of business. They had been the importer of Aitor products within the US, and since they were gone, the knives were nowhere to be found.

While running a search, to see whether anyone else was importing these knives, I linked into KnifeForums, and then within hours, the BladeForums. It has been alot of fun; so much so I forgot to leave.
