What Buck are you carrying today?

Going Old School 112 today along with a fancier 80's 303.

Don't get me rong, I "think" the 301 is a great knife. I love the "light" pull, too. In MY humble opinion, the 301's pull is "ideal" ... NEVER have to fight with it to open a blade, no matter how cold and/or wet my fingers are.

The ONE thing I dislike is the over-polished/over-ground bolsters along the liners and bolster/cover joint to a sliver ... if not into the liner.
It has always made me question the support given the pivot pins, so it hasn't been my "first choise" for carry.
Today, I did some measuring. 0.41" at the liners, mark to pile side on both ends. 0.5" at the pins. I'm going to guess the pin support is at least equal to an Imperial/Imperial Hammer Brand Hollow Bolster knife, and a SAK, so no need to fret about bending or breaking the pin.
Note how the bolsters (and covers at the transition) are slivers at the liners, making the knife appear (to my eyes, anyway) "weak", compared to brands that don't have the bolsters ground to slivers.

I don't understand why the high dollar 301/303 are like this.
The import 371/373 (and 389) don't have the over polished/ground bolsters.

At any rate, I'll be carrying this pair of Buck's for a while, along with the Huntsman (scissors, saw, and other daily use tools. I rarely use either blade.)

I never thought of it that way, Steve 🤔 I thought of Buck's 300 series as a stronger design given that the bolsters and liners are integral. Fewer parts, fewer joints. Won't lose the shield either since its integral with the liner also.

Steve, I'll join you in the boring club today. But I'm taking one step back and carrying only ONE knife in my pocket. A 301. Its claim to fame though, is that it's brand new. I just got it in the mail yesterday from Idaho. Sent in an old beat up 301 to get a blade replaced and they sent me a new one instead.
