What busse is this?

I doubt the rolled edge was from a knot, more likely from the digging or an incidental contact with something hard in the treebark.

Glad you liked your SFNO barrabas74. It was the first Busse I fell for. I've yet to get one but maybe some day if they come up on the Store or in the private market. My first Busse was the Meaner Street and I really like the feel and function of it. I've collected knives since I was about 8 and have many from different manufacturers. Most of my knives are folders and I've rarely spent more than a couple hundred dollars for them. Most are well below that in price. I've just recently got back into fixed blade knives. It was when I was looking for a replacement for my SOG. I wanted something beefy. I've found that with SRKW and Busse. I'm picking up my SFH at the post office tomorrow and I can't wait to lay my hands on it. If I have any regret it's that I didn't buy the HO version of it or that I don't have more money to spend on Jerry's knives.

As for some of the comments here:
I am one of the newbies here and I have never had anyone on this forum or the SRKW forum put me down for any lack of knowledge. I have even gotten encouragement from regular posters when I had questions about what knife I had chosen. Example is my post on 1/4" to 5/16" . Thank you Cobalt and the others for your posts.
I have collected knives for over 30 years. I have done a lot of research on what makes a great knife great but the bottom line is I know what I like and like most people buy according to that. The one and only thing that frustrates me about Busse knives is the limited quantities and the price. The price is on me... it's not Jerry's fault that I don't make enough money to afford every knife that comes up at the Store or his main website. One of the main reasons that I have purchased more Rats than Busse. Thank you Mrs. Busse. As far as marketing goes I think that Jerry Busse is a genius how he markets his products. Make em great and don't flood the market with them. This is a strategy that is used by many a great manufacture. I would have to agree that some of Jerry's knives look similar but that being said if I could afford to buy every knife listed on Bad Mojo I would! Many a knife maker sticks to a good design, that's one of the reason's they stay in business. If it works don't try to change or fix it. I could list off the many reasons why I think Jerry's fixed blade knives blow others out of the water but why bother. I'm the one footing the money for it so I really don't feel the need to explain to anyone why I like something I'm paying for! I do and if you handle one yourself you'll better understand, if not then that's your freedom. Please don't put me down or anyone else that is expressing his freedom to buy what he or she likes.

I look forward to saving my pennies and buying Busse and SRKW knives and explaining to my wife (the only one that deserves an explanation ) why I bought another one ( god this woman must love me ). I won't be able to buy all of them but I will get my share.

Once again, thank you to all the posters who have patiently supplied me answers to my many questions here and on SRKW.

Best Regards,
A newbie in training.

Hay nice to have you aboard, I am pretty much a newbie too, just remember that before you ask a question use the search function to try and find an answer before posting. Lots of newbies, me too run into this. Sometimes when you search you hvae to be careful what you put, I run into that. Just keep you posts relevant to where your at. If your here talk about busse, general: whatever, Chris Reeve: Chris reeve. Course this doesnt always apply its just a curtesy thing. Oh spend the money on one of these guys or any busse for that matter, I am more than impressed and I am sure you will be too if you get one.

Wow, It's amazing how fast everyone here jumps up to shout you down. !

Shout you down? Shout anyone down? Please cite specific examples. An individual came here, and made remarks that can only be considered inflammatory. While some people may have overzealously responded, Mr Lovett was asked to explain his qualifications to make such statements. Had he posted his "questions" as such, and in a non-confrontational tone, the responses would have been substantially more hospitable. As he chose to post in the way he did, the responses were appropriate, "in kind" if you will.

...as well as the busse lifestyle!!

And you mean exactly what by this statement?? Obviously you are ignorant of the folks here and the approach we takke to new people who ask questions. Take some time and look back through posts to see just how we respond. You will find you are WAY off base with this comment.

Also I think that all you HOGs need to lighten up a bit. :foot:

As I said, someone came here, and for no readily apparent reason, made inflammatory remarks. I don't think that the responses were out of line. If you will look, you will also see that I specifically asked that people NOT RESPOND FURTHER. Any further responses should have been left to Jerry, should he chose to do so.

But you lose certian inflections on the web( sarcasm, slighted humor, truthfulness, etc) and then you start assuming....

I don't think there was any room for nor did anyone make an assumption. His post was quite straightforward in his verbage.

But really He said he didn't mean to be rude or to flame,.............

This does not excuse his comments or approach. Period.

all kinds of names and telling him to go

All kinds of names? Your browser must have viewing powers mine does not.

. There's just something about chopping cinder blocks that get all these guys wet.......

This shows your knowledge of Busse knives is extremely limited. Sad.

Mordachai said:
Why cant you be more like the HI forum guys  , welcoming newbs with stupid questions, instead of attacking them and making them feel small?

Again, this shows your ignorance of what goes on within the Busse/Swamprat forums. Please be sure to stop back when you have learned about that of which you speak.

How sad pal.

MLovett,

I was just directed to this thread. I haven't been keeping up with it as I have been very busy preparing for the Chicago Custom Knife Show.

First, let me welcome you to our forum. Admittedly, you did sort of kick the door down on our party, but you're still welcome to stop by anytime.

Secondly you state that Busse knives are rather recent. The fact is that I've been making knives since the 1970's and went fulltime at it in 1982. I was solely a custom knifemaker until 1992 and continue to make custom blades to this day.

Thirdly, I have a lot of respect for all knifemakers whether I understand their designs or not and it is important to keep that in mind at all times. I appreciate your apology.

Finally, Busse Combat holds the top performance spot in the cutlery industry for extreme performance heavy use/abuse knives, such as are necessary in combat situations. Swamp Rat is on our tails and they keep us jumpin' . We are feared by more of our competitiors than we are liked. Not my choice, but I'm okay with it. We don't pick fights with other makers or manufacturers but we certainly do finish them. We are not afraid to call out any "would be competitor" anytime they start puffing their chests and ask them to prove their claims in a "LIVE" demo. To this date NONE have answered the call, and I don't expect that any will in the foreseeable future.

You strike me as an old time knifemaker, and for that alone you have my respect. Your knives look very nice, as I'm sure they are. I come from the old school of knifemaking and I'm sure that we have more in common than not. Feel free to call me at (419) 923-6471 at anytime if you have anymore questions or stop by my booth at the Chicago Show and I'll buy you a beer or whatever you're drinking at the time.

Respectfully yours,

Jerry

Just the kind of reply I have come to expect from Jerry.

:D

This ain't the ak-47 thread...

Must've taken a wrong turn :o :D ;)

Welcome to whoever the new guys are.

Another reason to buy Busse knives. A class act!

Thank you Mr Busse for answering all his questions with that simple yet well put reply.

I think that since this thread has fulfilled it's original purpose, I'd prefer to minimize any further tangential propagation.

Locked.
