I've read a lot of posts about what can't be carried in NYC. Is anyone clear on what can be carried in NYC?

plastic spork?

Sorry can't help ya with that one but my best guess would be contact your local jurisidction and ask them

I am somewhat curious about this as well. I'd like to see some serious answers to this question.

From what I can tell there really isn't any kind of any traditional defensive tool you can legally carry. What's worse is that it seems literally anything used in an assault ends up being called a "deadly weapon" anyway.

At this point, there are no hard, fast rules. If you do a search, you'll see many posts about this. I wouldn't carry anything you value a great deal. Certainly nothing that "flicks" open easily. You want something that will ride well in the bottom of your packet. If it's a single-hand opening knife, you are taking some level of risk. Normally, I carry a Spyderco Tanacious with a tight retention. I do take my chances doing so, but I'm also fairly clean cut in appearance, have no record, and I avoid trouble as best I can. You have to do your research and decide what risk you can bear.

NYC law says the knife must be carried completely concealed. If you carry a knife with a clip, you may forget and clip it to your pocket. If an officer sees it clipped, you got a problem.

Slip joint Swiss army knife- as others have said keep it in your pocket. If challenges, I plan on stating that I carry it for work purposes only such as opening mail.

I'm not sure about that- a fixed blade can still be considered a "dangerous knife" and will therefore be illegal

It could be, but it has all the checkmarks of a legal knife. Fixed, concealed, <4" blade length.

And I would rather loose this then the Umnumzaan it replaced as my daily city EDC.

I carry my CRK Professional Soldier. Fixed blades are a go! :)

A CRK Professional Soldier would be a definite NO. This would likely be considered a "dangerous knife". If a knife is primarily designed as a weapon it is illegal. Any knife called a "Professional Soldier" would be pretty tough to defend in court.

I can't imagine a judge thinking a fixed blade knife called a "Professional Soldier" would be considered as anything other than primarily intended as a weapon.

I don't think it was designed to be used as a weapon specifically, where are the flesh wrenching serrations and blood grooves?

Be serious, a 3.5" knife is not your primary form of offense. I don't have a Sebenza on hand at work, but looking at it in hand I don't think it's bigger then a open Lg. Sebenza, which makes it on the small side for a fixed blade knife.

In the eyes of hipsters,

Black = tactical
Hole= tactical
G10= tactical
Locking mechanism = tactical
Pocket clip = tactical

IMHO, I would think that's too risky. Still, to each his own.
