What Dad/Grandpa carried

This was my Grandfathers knife, he used it 30 years ago the last time I saw him(I was 15 then) to cut Kielbasa and smoked/cured meats in the pantry for our afternoon meals along with cutting up bread and onions and peppers to go with the ham.

My cousin found it in the basement and gave it to me as a gift when I went home. in '06

It's gotta be over 60 years old and other than the pitting/character it's as strong as the day he let me use it to cut myself a piece of kielbasa the last day I saw him.

I hadn't even thought of that day or the knife in nearly 30 years, her giving me that knife brought a tear to this old Mad Hungarians eye.

It says Gerlach Poland on the tang I'm not even sure what kind of wood it has for handles, anyone ever seen or heard of this brand.

BTW the trip was great, great food, great booze, great family.

My Grandpa on Dads side carried a Boker Stockman.Moms Dad carried a small Case of some kind, never saw him using it alot.Dad was'nt much into pocket knives, but carries a Schrade LB7 in a sheath that I gifted him in 1980.

Dad carried a small Schrade Pen Knife usually. A Case Sodbuster sometimes. But ,I most remember him with an Old Timer Liner lock Hunter. That Blade was scarey-sharp! If I ever handled that knife I was certain to get a cut. Da'd been gone about 12 years now, and this past Christmas my Mom gave me that old Hunter. I cleaned it up and gave it a few licks on the stone, Crap! It's scarey sharp again!

Mom's dad came home from WWII missing an arm, so he didn't carry a pocketknife.

Dad's dad carried a two-blade jack. Unfortunately, I never found out what happened to that knife after my grandma died. When he died, I asked her for it, but she wasn't ready to part with it. Then, we she died, it seemingly got lost in the shuffle.

My dad never really carried a knife when I was a kid, but for the last 10 years or so, always has a Victorinox Classic on his keychain.

This is my Dad's Buck 301 that he carried off and on for 30+ years. It's mine now, I traded him for a 2010 version of the same knife. My Granddad also carried one of these, except he had ground the spey blade down on his so he could use it as a flathead screwdriver. I think Dad has that one in his collection, I'll probably get that one someday too when Dad's ready to part with it.

My grandfather on my dad's side carries a Leatherman PST2 always. He keeps a SAK around the house on a hook. He's a chemical engineer and developed AstroTurf.

My mom's dad was a carpenter, and had quite a few knives. Mostly they were Schrades, frequently two bladed jacks.

My dad carries a Buck one handed opener. When he was young, they all carried old timers.

My paternal grandfather's Case knife. I inherited this knife when he passed last April. My Dad has the Case that my grandfather carried during his tours in Korea and Vietnam.

I carry this knife every once in a while as a way to remember.

Hi guys!

Thank you for that thread. It´s nice to see such old knives which had seen so much use and work.

My grandpa carried a Mercator, even during WWII. But it was taken away, when he came to prisonship.

Here´s a replica of the modell he carried that time.

Dad is a non-knife-guy.

Kind regards

My Grandpa was a pretty staunch Old Timer man.
I know he always had one on the dresser, and had one in his pocket when he was killed.
My dad is sort of a knife guy, so it's hard to pin down, but when I was a younger he had this AWESOME large 3 blade queen that he lost.
.....go ahead, mention it to him even now, and watch him go!

My dad currently carries whatever the newest "find" is that he picked up off the ground on the job site. He hasn't worked in about 6 years, though. The one that I wish I had is one he still talks about 40 + years after losing it. It was a German Bowie-style knife with stag handle that he lost in a roll-over wreck just 30 miles from where I live now. Funny thing is, he never lived anywhere near where the wreck happened, (Just east of Lawrence Kansas on I-70) and I ended up moving to this location 14 years ago. After recovering in the hospital, and checking the totalled car in, he drove out to the wreck site to look for it, but couldn't find it.

So, every time I bring a new knife to show him, he recounts his story of the wreck and how the roof of the car was "This Close" to where his head was, and how "The angels were keeping an eye on him."

I guess, even not having the knife, I will always have the story...:D

Never really knew my Mom's father, although I do have a gold puma with a diamond in the handle that he received for his retirement that mom Mom will give me some day.

Dad's family in the old country, passed away when I was just a baby, so no chance of anything from there.

This is the knife that I remember my Dad carrying when I was a kid - a Sabre Barlow. I thought it lost after he died but found it a few years ago and cleaned it up.

As for my grandfather, I can't say I recall. If I had to guess what it was during the years I knew him I'd probably go with a pen knife. He loved high quality tools and gadgets.

These two are my grandfathers' knives.

A small stockman Case in red bone (naturally pocket worn!!)

My dad relied on a OT Mustang for twenty years until I got him interested in knives. He carries most of my knives now haha!

Whew... this thread has a sadness to it, reading of my Forum friends who lost their parents / Grand parents when they were quite young, but you know... if you have their knife, you have a LOT , and I mean a LOT more than what I have, so in a way, you are very lucky.
Great Thread.
Yeah, it is kinda sad here. It makes me realize how lucky I am, to have both of my parents and one grandpa.
Thanks for the complement on the thread. It's been a great read, thanks guys!

My father carried an Uncle Henry trapper most of the time I can remember growing up. Every once in a while he would carry a Case trapper with CV blades. A few years ago I found a "new old stock" Uncle Henry with the original box and paperwork and gave him as a present. He still has the original Uncle Henry which I guess is probably 30 years old, give or take a few, that he carries most of the time. He has a couple of knives that belonged to his father, who passed away before I was born. I haven't looked at them in years, but I think I remember seeing an old timer and camillus.

My grandgather Max was a Limestone County, AL deputy and a farmer he would either carry this Case Serpintine Jack or an Old Timer 340T...

My father Glenn is a true geek and bluegrass musician he carries a small pen size Imperial Stockman.
