What Dad/Grandpa carried

wierdly my Granddad never really caried a knife that i remember. my dad bought Gerbers on Base (Army) and sharpen them once and cary them till thy got dull, then through them out and bought a new one. but one thing he always had was a leatherman of multiple varieties

My Dad carried anything from the Buck Prince to a Case Buffalo horn single blade knife. He even had a small Puma that he carried so long it wore the wood scales down to the metal frame.

I believe this has come up before, but I may be mistaken. My father doesn't carry any kind of knife. The closest thing to an EDC for him is a slotted screwdriver key that has been around the world a couple times. It likely doesn't see much use since slotted screws have largely gone the way of the dinosaur, save for outlet and light switch covers. But no knife.

Well into his eighties, my dad's dad carried a Buck 112 everyday. That knife has dug splinters out of my both me and my brother, dressed plenty of game (particularly mule deer), cut sandwiches, and accomplished sundry other chores a three inch blade is well suited to. He broke the tip off at one point, and sent it into Buck for a new one. When it came back a couple weeks later, he couldn't stop talking about their customer service. I haven't seen it since he made the move from Phoenix, AZ to Thousand Oaks, CA last November.

I don't believe my ma's dad carried anything. He's been gone nearly ten years, and we were never very close.

my Grandpa carried a little stockman with yellow scales, I wish I knew what brand it was. Dad has had the same knife my whole life, a western trapper. one of his buddies tooled in designs on both ends of the handles. the blades are verry worn, and has cut more steers then I could count

My dad was not one to "buy" knives. He always had one in his front pocket, but it was normally a company give away. He always hada stash of company swag to give customers and one of the items he always kept were a few small lockbacks (2" blade the last ones were branded Zippo). They were cheap steel and his were normally pretty dull. When ever I would see him I made sure to grab his knife and put the best edge I coul on it. The edge never lasted long as he would strip wires, clean battery terminal, what ever with the edge. I bought him a nice custom lockback for his retirement, and on his death I got it back, unused. These two are my grandfathers' knives.

My dad relied on a OT Mustang for twenty years until I got him interested in knives. He carries most of my knives now haha!

Sorry, the middle two are not damascus. Just a faux type finish. I wrote to Levine a long time ago about a similar Hammer Brand Imperial knife (a serpentine jack) & he stated (with his standard lack of wit - smart guy though) it looked like the pattern used for making the marks on pre-cooked hamburgers. Hickory & some Case kitchen knives had their own version of that style of stamp.
