What did you lot EDC today?

Don't tell me it's the pocketbook... you been out plowing fields in your high heels again?

I peen my straight snathed American scythe. The snath is short and the handle is completely adjustable. The handle gets moved horizontally when cutting something with more or less resistance. Easier on the hips.

My CRKT Crawford Falcon - my most-carried knife. Plenty of bite, and takes a wicked edge. I bought this one after my Emerson Commander turned up missing after my assignment to Los Alamos for the Cerro Grande fire in 2000. It's out there somewhere.....hopefully some lucky soul found it. After that I carried this one on numerous other fires - it's a natural law that inexpensive knives won't get lost.

Ain't that the truth brother. Some you almost don't want to carry for fear they'll go walk about.
One very nice thing about HI knives, they are pretty easy to spot if you leave one laying around. One more good thing.

I lost a little Kershaw I carried for years under the floor boards of my little boat. Must have fell thru an opening at the edge or something. Caught a tiny little bass and it shook loose and flopped around and went down an opening. It got pretty ripe of course and I ended up taking up a couple sections of floor and flushing trying to get it out. Got it eventually but the big prize is I found the little Kershaw which I usually have on me to this day. Seldom use it but it in my little bag for little stuff.

For a cheap little knife it really takes a keen edge too.

My Spydie PPT is hanging off the side of a trashbag in the dump somewhere, by the &?!$! deep pocket clip.
Never lost a cheapie.

Thats exactly how I loose mine. Ive lost three of four that way. I finally started clipping them to a knot on the end of a lanyard and clip the other end to my beltloop then drop it in your pocket. That worked great because I could snag it from my pocket via lanyard with pinky finger. Problem is most people in my opinion put the clip on the wrong end of the knife. With the clip opposite the hinge you can snag it pop it open while still on the lanyard and put it to use without even unclipping it. For quick release from the lanyard you can just point tip down and pull up to release.

ClarksRifles, That is pardon the pun one sharp looking knife. It looks like it has a perfect shape to the blade in my opinion I love just a small touch of recurve like that. And the grip looks to be no-nonsense but effecient.

It is funny, I have a hard time buying "expensive" production folders these days. Most of the time the name on em is the only thing that makes them more expensive than the cheapies. If you are smart about what cheap ones you buy, you can get some really good steel well made in a cheap production folder. (Now hand made are a different thing entirely, a true knifemaker like the guys we have around here doing their thing is worth every penny in my opinion.)

Ndog, I really am trying to work out a visual of how that would work because like JW and the rest of you I have lost a couple that way. On the plus side I have a really large old Okapi Lock knife from when they were Solingen made that I found that was lost that way. Interesting old knife and awkward as hell to open. Not very practical for self defense but holds a great edge.

Sorry Shavru. Pardon my scrambled description. What i mean is a piece of paracord with a big knot on one end and a brass clip on the other. Clip the knife on one end behind the knot so it dont slide off the cord and clip the other end to your belt loop. That way if it fell out of my pocket it would be dangling there on the cord. It made it easy to find amongst all the crap in my pocket because all I had to do is grab the cord and pull it out of my pocket. Doesnt work well with an open frame knife because keys coins etc. get stuck in the frame and is annoying. I never did like open framed knives for that reason.

Ah ok, AND that allowed me to figure out what you meant by the clip on the wrong end too. Yeah that way turning it so the clip runs away from the blade end. I will have to give it a try. Makes sense but have to try to see if it feels right.

I wanted to make a blade where when you pull it out of your pocket like that the cord would assist the opening of the blade but the legalities are complicated and I havent quite figured out the mechanics of it yet but now with switchblades being legal here (last i checked) I may have to revisit the idea.

AH! Texas finally decided that switchblades are still really only knives and not some super murder weapon that kills millions in their sleep when the criminal thinks about opening it? Wish the rest of the States would figure out that knives and guns are useful tools and that they should limit people to cars that only go 5mph and send all the illegal criminals (aliens) back to were they were criminals before coming here, if they want to make a dent in the number of American deaths per year.

Its actually a Federal exemption added by the POTUS last May (imagine that?). This was copied and pasted into the exceptions part: "Reads a knife that contains a spring, detent, or other mechanism designed to create a bias toward closure of the blade and that requires exertion applied to the blade by hand, wrist or arm to overcome the bias toward closure to assist in opening the knife."
Heres the kicker. They never said even in the beginning that you couldnt use your bottock to open it:D
The knife I speak of btw was my edc for many years and was a Gerber open frame cheapo but was highly modified and converted to convexed liner lock instead of frame lock. Clip moved to the other end as well. I dont have pics cause i gave it to my grandkid.

SnowSire that TiBolt always looked nice but my main question is does it write well? I am really picky about my pens. I want them super smooth writing and since I will use it 1000 times more for that than any self defense I want one that writes well. My first defense pen sucked. It was a nice solid piece of steel but useless as a pen.

NDog, Hmm I am not sure what that is an exemption to. but I am pretty certain in this liberal fairyland of Western Washington it doesn't apply. As for opening it with your buttock. Wouldn't that make it rather dangerous to sit with it in your pocket?!?!

Self defense pen? did I hear that right?
Basically i mean tied to you belt hence waist. hence bottock? doesnt matter long as it aint your arm...

Shavru, I think the switchblade phobia is mainly due to the "snick" and the visual flash of the blade as it opens. I've purchased and handled auto blades across the river in Oregon, and while they are fun to play with they are no quicker to open than my CRKT. That knife has sufficient mass to open easily with a flick of the wrist. Autos are fun but overpriced and overrated in my book.

I totally agree. Several officers here have auto's. Fun to play with but way way overated. I also just could not get comfy with one of those things in my pocket.
I've pretty much gone completely fixed blade now days. Once in awhile I'll bring a folder but not often.

Most here have gone to those bent knives with the blade almost 90 degrees to the handle. Drawing a blank on what they are called. I'd like to get one myself one of these days. Now this is gonna drive me crazy all day until I remember what the heck they are called. Kind of like a kerambit kindasorta.
