What did you lot EDC today?

Most here have gone to those bent knives with the blade almost 90 degrees to the handle. Drawing a blank on what they are called. I'd like to get one myself one of these days. Now this is gonna drive me crazy all day until I remember what the heck they are called. Kind of like a kerambit kindasorta.
I call them a draw knife:D come to think of it I dont even own a folder anymore? All fixed blade:thumbup:

Bawanna-the Kabar TDI? They always seemed kinda limited to me, in a way the karambit is not. As a weapon retention/cqb knife it'd be nice to be able to use the point in reverse grip. You do see a lot of 'em though.

Yeah, I think that's the one. They a couple different sizes. Officers here love them.

SnowSire that TiBolt always looked nice but my main question is does it write well? I am really picky about my pens. I want them super smooth writing and since I will use it 1000 times more for that than any self defense I want one that writes well. My first defense pen sucked. It was a nice solid piece of steel but useless as a pen.

Same here. I don't carry it for self defense or anything, it's my daily writing instrument. I do illustrations and ink sketches, and I am very picky about the types of pen I use. The easyflow 9000 refill that was shipped with the pen writes well enough, but I find the line a little thick to my liking, so I went and bought a whole bunch of different refills that fill the pen and tried them out. (That was very easy, as it takes a standard parker ballpoint style refill) Here's a photo of my findings:

Anyway I'm very pleased with the Visconti gel refill in the 0.5mm. They make 0.7 and 1.0 as well if you prefer medium or broad refills, but I find them difficult to use since I'm always half sketching and half writing in my notebooks.

On a slightly different note, what are your current favourite pens/refills?

Nice pen! I used to EDC a Jinhao x450 fountain pen, but I just kept leaving it in my pocket when I'd toss my shirt in the laundry. You can guess how the wife felt about that!

Nowadays I just keep an Inka collapsible pen on my keychain.

I'm using the ink that it came with, but I'm going to buy a (write anywhere) space pen refill eventually.

Speaking of EDC knives, I still can't find my dang Mercator so it's time to replace it. Rather than using any of the half dozen pocket knives I already own, I was thinking of getting one of these Rough Rider ceramic trapper knives.

One steel blade and one ceramic blade. At $20 it's a bit pricey for a Rough Rider, but I like the concept. Does anybody have experience with ceramic blades?

A good friend at Kahr sent me a ceramic folder with the Kahr logo on it for a birthday a few years back.

It's the most wicked sharp knife I've ever owned. The blade on this one is white and you can almost see through it when you hold it right. Real pretty knife.

The only downfall is they are rumored to be kind of brittle. You don't want to drop one and I don't the the average mere mortal can sharpen them. I haven't carried it, it's kind of special. I've cut stuff with it and keep thinking I'm gonna carry it but never done it so far.

I love the idea of a steel blade and a ceramic in one knife. That's smart thinking on their part.

Hey bawanna, you seen the new special Kahr/Spyderco Delica?

I have and I'm gonna get one. I love it. I'm a moderator on Kahrs forum so I might be able to score a deal on one. I guess they are a fairly new thing, only recently started shipping. And lots of interest in them. It's a really good looking knife.

I've never owned a Spyderco but held a few that I liked. Only weak link is the clip being screwed on. They seem to come loose and strip easily. I'm not too hard on stuff though so maybe it would be ok.
My Micro Bowie on the left and that on the right, both my forums covered and if the left one don't get ya then the right one will and if that fails there's always the Cbob 1911.

Wow. I wish I could carry around some serious hardware like that. I'd end up in a federal prison, though.

I've been EDCing a Mercator black cat k55k recently, but the dang thing went missing. The downside about that guy is that it's so slim that it can just slide out of your pocket. I should have tied a fob to it. Hopefully it'll show up.

In the mean time I've been carrying this $10 Rough Rider lockback trapper.

I looked at the Rough Rider site and Smoky Mountain and couldn't find this trapper but I did find one and it really is 10 bucks.
I didn't order it yet on account of I got a drawer full of folders and a file cabinet full of bills but I felt good knowing there's one out there waiting for me. For some reason that knife just looks nice to me. I wish it had that blade and the other was ceramic like the other one recently posted. I found that one too, hoped I could find this blade type with the ceramic. No joy.
Well some joy always but just not alot of joy like ones on it's way or nothing like that ya know?

The blade shape on that one doesn't do it for me but I knew you're a Kahr guy so I thought I'd mention it. I got even more Spydercos than I got khukuris. Never had a clip screw come loose. Only problem I've had was of of their other wire clips breaking off. They are good stuff and have a great warranty. Highly recommend one if you're on the fence about it.

You don't like that blade shape huh? Kind of appeals to me, might fizzle when I hold it in hand but looks good in the pic.

Shavru will probably want one too. She goes to Seattle and cares about staying legal, that would sure meet the criteria.
Maybe I can score a buy one get one free and send her the one that cost 100 bucks and keep the free one myself.
Course I'd pay the 100 on account of that's what gentlemen do and I'm not trying to rack up points on my CC, what a stupid commercial. He's using you to rack up points........................................

I found my Mercator! So I don't have to order a new knife, but I think I might anyways.

The ceramic blade one seems to be brand new. I don't know if they're going to expand on the line with other models or not. Rumor has it they're going to introduce carbon steel blades at some point too, but they've been saying that for years.

My "ideal traditional" knife would be a 3 blade trapper/stockman hybrid. On one side you'd have a thick lockback carbon steel clip point and a ceramic spey blade, both full length. On the other side you'd have a half length super thin coping blade like on a whittler or a stockman. Lastly, I'd want a bail loop on one end like a TL-29 so I could put a lanyard or something on it. The mini coping blade would be for opening and breaking down cardboard boxes, the ceramic spey would be for slicing up my microwave burritos at work, and the locking clip point would be for everything else.

Do you guys like those Spyderco leaf shaped blades? I was thinking of throwing a $20 at one of the Chinese made knockoffs just to play with one. They probably come out of the same factory as the low end Spydercos anyways. If I liked it I'd get the real deal of course.

Blue, I highly suggest you don't buy the chinese Spyderco knock-offs. Get something from their Byrd line or one of the budget (real) chinese spydercos.

Tidioute Cutlery knives always make me weak in the knees. No matter how satisfied I might be with a little $10 Rough Rider, one look at those and I realize how faaaaaar far far away they are from top of the line. I always planned on getting one some day, but I know I'd lose it in 24 hours so it'd stay in a drawer.

Has anybody tried a Bear and Sons traditional folder? They're the only ~20 dollar American made folder around these days. The fit and finish are supposed to be pretty poor, though. You get what you pay for I guess. I hear Case has gone down in quality too.

Your best bet I think is to find an old American made one at auction or something. The old Schrades are very good. New ones not so much. They got bought out by Taylor Brands and moved production to China.

Nice ink Philll! The canal street traditionals are pretty nice. Dig the Kahr spydie-I almost bought a Hitachi super blue dragonfly there, but I think I can score one elsewhere. Very nice traditionals BTW.

Does anybody have any experience with the Utica Kutmaster line? Made in the USA, 1095 carbon steel, and all for $20-$30 bucks. The reviews are pretty sketchy, though. It sounds like some people get good ones, some get bad.

Wow! Very nice Phillll! I had a few Barlows and loved them. Also had several old Schrade Old Timers and Bucks. Guess I eventually lost them all one way or another. Things dont tend to stay in my pocket unless they are tied on.
