USN Mustang '66-'96. Carried no name until I got the Buck. Carried Buck 110 from early-mid 70s. Went walkabout in '98, replaced with Buck 110. Used it to cut anything that needed to be cut.

OT

I am active duty Army MP and have done two tours in Iraq. I usually carry a Spyderco folder and a SAK classic on the keychain in garrison. I bought laser-engraved Enduras for all of my senior leaders when I was a company commander and I think it is hard to beat for an all-around EDC knife. In the field, I still carry a folding knife but usually have a multitool on the belt. I keep a medium fixed-blade knife (Short Becker Trailing Point or Blackbird SK-5), a SwissChamp and a multitool (usually SOG or SwissTool) on my body armor.

I am in Korea right now and trying to figure out what is kosher and what is not, so I have been relying on my SAK classic. I reach for my non-present folder several times a day. I have two in my household goods that I will be carrying in uniform as soon as I get settled.

82nd Airborne Division / 11H > 1980 - 1986. Really don't remember carrying knives. Some guys would jump with kabar's attached to their boot..not me..wanted to walk away without a blade sticking in my leg.

U.S.M.C. 73-79 Engineer. Issued camillus Electricians knife and carried Marine Corps combat utility knife at diffrent times when in the field.
also had my personal EDC wich was a Puma 970 Game Warden and some times carried Buck 110 I was gifted from my little Bro. (Also a Marine).

16S Army 86-88.
I mostly carried a Gerber 450 or an Opinel No.8 plus I got a cool looking olive drab Victorinox that was German Army issue when I was on Reforger in 87.

I carried a variety of 3"ish folders. I don't think I've ever gone without a 3-3.5" folder.unless security areas prevented it.

I also had a gerber pliers tool (whatever they called it....) still have it too......

13F (Forward Observer) carried some no name fixed blade knife that somehow grew legs and walked away.

These threads are always interesting because most people respond with fairly affordable options that they carried. It's just enlightening to those who are under the impression that all service men and women are rocking high end Emersons and striders.

There was a similar thread last year and I'd say that 90% of the people who responded, cited an MT as their most used/carried piece of kit.

Seabees, 1980-93 and I carried a customized Buck 110 that is long gone now. :( I'd really like another done the same someday.
Also carried a 119 that has seen a LOT of miles. No date stamp so pre-1986 and still have it.

Former FMF Corpsman here. I wasn't into knives then, so I used my trauma sheers or scalpel for 99% of cutting chores. I carried some model of CRKT or Gerber during my tours because they sold those models at the exchange in Fallujah, I always lost them moving patrol bases or something though.

If I carried a folder, which I did not always do (got the bug later on), it was a Gerber folder from the PX. Me and my friends were more into guns.

It's called stretching your pay.
