What did you preorder?!!

Just a few minutes ago I ordered a 2.7 and a 3.5. I'd been shopping for super durable folder for a while now, but for whatever reason last week I decided to skip an expensive super folder and get a small fixed blade. It would be more durable anyway. I've been using various Survive 4.1s for a couple of years now and I trust the product. So I went and placed my order.

I carry fixed blade knives exclusively in an EDC role. I have not done this with my 4.1 because belt carry is not possible at my work place, but IWB/inside pocket sheaths work for me. That and a neck knife. I am thinking about sending the 4.1 off to a leather bender to have his IWB sheath made for it.

Great choices Paradiggum. I used to carry only folders but I don't want to risk a knife failure if something bad were to happen so I carry a 4.1 everyday.
I think I'm going to go with a 3.5 pretty soon here to replace the 4.1 as an EDC. That 2.7 is still really tempting though.

You are a wise man. The best super folder from Strider, Hinderer or whoever will fail if you have to thump on it hard. I can get a good quality 4" fixed blade for 1/4 to 1/2 the price, and it will never fail if I have to thump on it. This is also why I prefer a revolver to a semi auto in an EDC role. Reliability of every revolver I ever fired has been 100%. I cant say the same thing about semis.

I almost got a Strider SNG a few months ago but I chose to get the 4.1 and 5 and I still had money left over! I'd like to still have one but I would probably lose it or never use it because of the price.
I agree with you on the reliability of a revolver considering it's really hard to bugger one up!

I like how you think! Excellent investments for sure.

Mac, Standard: you both have some good thought processes going on here.

I know there's an entire culture around high end folders, but man, I can't get myself to spend more than $40 on one because I can almost guarantee I would lose it or do something dumb to it.

I've carried a folder since I was a kid and got into things like Spyderco and so on in about 1998 when they started offering ambi knives. I'm left handed, so it's not always easy to find a quality knife to carry. Back then it was almost unheard of. I have some CRK folders because he offers them in LH and I wanted some high quality folders. I spend a lot of time in the woods and then I always do have a fixed blade on my belt and usually an Izula around my neck. I used to EDC a fixed blade every day before I worked in an office. When I made the decision to just EDC a fixed blade again, (Not at work, of course) the knife I was carrying certainly is virtually indestructable, but it's thick for a knife it's size. While the Izula would certainly work I just wanted something a little more...I'm not even sure how to put it into words. But the Survive knives will fit that bill. I have several 4.1s, a 6 and and SK and I've used them all pretty extensively so I have faith that these smaller knives will perform as intended. I went back and forth on which steel to get the 3.5 in. I settled on 3V. It's basically going to live in my laptop bag where the 2.7 will be carried whenever I'm not at work. I work in an office in the city and someone even freaked out when I used my Spyderco Delica to cut the plastic bands on a Staples paper box. So I carry a traditional at work now. Hasn't raised an eyebrow. But I know a belt fixed blade would probably get the authorities called on me.
All of my GSO stainless knives are M390 and S90V so I'm interested in seeing how this newer 20V performs.

Good choices. And I love a good revolver. I carry a Colt trooper mark III .357 mag with some cute little hydra shocks. I also got a snub nose .38 that's a really good shooting pistol. Never had a failure or jam. But I've had at least one jam in all my semi autos. Also seen a failure in a spring on a hi point. (Cheap semi)

The most I've spent on a folder was $200 and it was painful. The good thing is I didn't lose money. I've sold off every folder other than my Swiss Army's because they never saw any use.
I feel Paradiggum's pain because I'm a lefty also. It's a pain trying to find a good ambidextrous folder or a right hander that's tolerable.

Right now I'm waiting on my client to have a stainless Ruger Security Six checked out. Her dad was a cop and he somehow took ownership of it but there's no paperwork. I'd love to be able to CC it out here but that'll never happen. It'll be a nice camping sidearm though!

My dad won't cough up any of my grandpa's service revolvers so I'll get my own!

All my fixed blades are ambidextrous :p

Really though, I'm right handed, so I can only imagine that a lot of things are tricky as lefties, but I've seen some youtube guys who are showing off folders as they open and close them with either hand. I'd seriously hurt myself trying to depress the lock and close a folder with my left hand.

Haha that's why I'm sticking to fixed blades! Most Spyderco's are pretty ambidextrous and the Benchmade's with an axis lock are great. I've never tried a left handed folder so it would probably be weird.

Standard, I have that exact revolver in .38 Special only with a six in barrel and it is stamped CHP for California Highway Patrol. The story goes that Ruger had a contract for 4" revolvers with CHP, and they made 500 with six inch as a mistake. They then soled their mistake into the civilian market. It is big and heavy for the caliber, but I loved the rarity of it.

Just in case anyone doesn't know this already, Guy is also a lefty. His designs always take that particular "disability" into consideration. Also, a SURVIVE! folder is happening soon. FYI.

my brain is racked trying to imagine a survive styled folder, very excited for this
