  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What did you use your SAK for today?

Another partly cloudy day here 430pm. I did get a promising result with a leaf folded around a natural ball of cotton. I got a small ignition but with the surprise of something actually happening I didn't get it into my tinder bundle in time. I do promise to have another go in the midday sun when the conditions are right. Sadly I think the sak magnifying glass is not a reliable fire starter. :(
Ok, my interest will now be turned into action, when time allows I'll try with my Explorer (gray) magnifying glass...if Macgyver can do it so can we;):D

Put a new inner tube in a bicycle tire. The rim strip (protects the inner tube from spoke punctures) had creeped up around the Schrader valve, puncturing the old inner tube near the valve. Used the pen blade on my Rambler to trim the excess rim strip; easy peasy. Remounted the new tube and tire, pumped it up, and good to go.

I LIT A FIRE!!!

Ok so I started with 3 things. A piece of char cloth, a natural cotton ball and a tissue

Within 20 seconds of focussing the sun's rays on the char cloth it got the familiar orange glow. And a good blow of air it was ready to put in the cotton bud and tissue.

A few more good blows of air and a good flame started

So there you go. From start of focussing the beam to flame was under 60 seconds.
Char cloth is super easy to make and carry in zip bags, many YouTube videos about it. I'd recon good dry tinder would work as good as the cotton and tissue. Loose cotton fibres ignite very quickly and easily and go out just as quick. Temperature is 17°c UV index is high at 6.5 full sunlight.
NB. I used the clothes peg so not to burn my fingers, and get some action photos.

Yesterday while cooking, I opened several cans (tomato sauce, olives, corn, condensed milk, etc., etc.). I used my Alox Cadet. Normally, I would’ve used either my Spartan or my Pioneer, but I just grabbed the Cadet because it happened to be laying closer to the kitchen. Only one of the cans had a pull top, and even with that one, I used the large screwdriver/bottle opener blade to pry up the pull ring enough to get my finger in it without breaking a nail.

Congratulations... YOU ARE MACGYVER!!!
Thanks for showing the way.:thumbsup:

Sorry, no photos but I used a Fieldmaster with economy scales yesterday to saw through some peg board material. My buddy asked me “what’re you going to do with that” when I pulled out the little saw. I was done before he could return with a handsaw.

The saw MAY be one of many SAK tools that surpass certain dedicated tools. When I did electrical, I cut plastic pipe and sheetrock often with my SAK saw vs hunting down a jabsaw:thumbsup: Back then I carried 91mm more often.
