It’s just an anti-oxidant compound. We have to use it on aluminum conductor connections, very rarely run aluminum unless it’s spec’d. From time to time we will use it on copper service feeds like hereI'm an electrician myself by trade, I was wondering what is that grey mass on the connectors and what's the intention? Never seen that before. Sorry for the OT.
Is that about the same as the HMFIC?My starbenza and I are adapt to being REMF’s today. View attachment 1316778

Love seeing working Damascus
Haha. I’m pretty sure it’s just a worldwide industry standard. If it’s real bad throw some PVC glue on the cut first. The only time it didn’t work I ended up having to get 13 stitches in my thumb. I held out as long as I could before giving in to an ER tripI see you are using your “Electrician’s universal bandage, black, cut-to length”
Yea I’ve got a Pj 21 ladder that’s a worker. It’s beat to hell on the blade. I love the way it looks tho. There’s some fairly recent pictures of it floating around here somewhere, maybe in the well worn thread. I don’t find the edge retention to be bad either. Someone had asked me and I really can’t tell much difference between it and S35vn as well. The etch fades for sure, but it’s kinda like snail-trails on the scales. Gives it a worn in look.
The Damascus steel actually has very good edge retention. I don’t find it’s any worse than s35VN. Might even be a little better truthfully. Most of my S35VN CRKs are the old, softer heat treat, so that may factor.
