What do you all use to scribe your center line? Can I make one?

A couple of easy options are using calipers or take a piece of steel ground to a point the height of where you need a center line then hold if on a flat surface and move the blade across it.

You can take a drill bit that is the same or slightly smaller than the thickness of your stock and lay it on a flat surface. Hold the drill bit still and slide the knife against the drill bit to scribe the line. Flip the knife and repeat.

Works for me. I use the same size bit as the thickness of my blade. First I use a marking pen on the edge than scribe.

Thats makes three of us for the drill bit. They are cheap, come in many sizes and can also be used to drill holes in the handle.:)

I use drill bits too, and by using slightly smaller or larger size bit you can scribe a double line to grind to close to for your edge thickness.
Thanks,

If you are a gadget type of person it is not hard to make one of these. It is adjustable and since it has a carbide point for a scribe, it is esy to mark heat treated steel. It is easy to adjust so that you can mark the lines exactly where you want them. It is easy to make if you have a drill press and a band saw. If you don't, it will just take a little longer.

A height gauge with a carbide tip works well for over the counter stuff, and it comes in handy to have anyway. The drill bits work like a charm as well.

I use a triangular file groung to a point, blue the edge and scrib, flip and scribe the other side.

I did a kind of improvisation like this.
A snap-off knife blade chip on kydex sheat of adequate thickness.
They are fixed on a micarta plate with a clamp.

I use a drill bit as well. I use a C-clamp to clamp the bit down on a flat surface
and then push the steel against the bit.

I use a sharpie to color the steel, then I stack sheets of paper to about half of the thickness of the stock and use a razor blade to scribe.

i drilled my jig to take a fine tip alc. marker the way i dont have to mark the whole work and just scribe / mark the line to grind to

Excellent suggestions works also for me.
I use also a leather caliper to scratch the middle as well.
Cheers

I made a simple scribe as well. The body should be longer to lay along the flat of the blade though, this one tends to "wobble."
