What do you all use to scribe your center line? Can I make one?

I don't know what I will do....

Most of these scribes work based on using flat sided stock....

And I will be using stock with forged sides, thus not flat....

But, these tools should help me along the way, we will see....

Marion, the few times I have worked on a forged blade I have found it best to first grind the profile and then establish the flats of the ricaso area. The flats will allow you to clamp your blade to a flat surface and scribe your centre lines. You can slightly taper the tang latter to make fit up easier.

do yourself a favor and buy some Dykem layout fluid instead of using a sharpe. stays put, and doesn't rub off. worth the money

+1 on the DyKem. I'm using Spray-On brand layout fluid currently, but it's about the same. It stays in the small scratches better, too. Not sure why, but Sharpie ink seems to pull right out.

It also helps prevent rust on pieces of steel that are going to sit in a drawer for a a while before you work on them.
