What do you carry in your altoid tin?

Here is my fire kit in a tin I carry it in a molle grenade pouch so the stuff under the Ranger bands isnt a problem.

Inside
Tabasco container of Zippo fluid
MRE TP
MRE wet matches
100 MPH tape
Mini Bic
Candles
PJ cotton straws
Piece of hack saw blade

This is what I keep in my knife kit. Most of it goes in my Altoids tins.

added these this morning. The firestraws with cotton balls coated in the carmex, and the extra carmex for rubbing on tinder or my chapped lips. Perhaps my dreadlocks if im lost for that long

I fill mine with unpopped popcorn. Not for any real reason, but if I want I can have popcorn, or use it like a shaker thingy to make some fun noises.

Kidding. Mine are pretty standard, fire kit in one, first aid in another. Been looking at alternative containers for a long time though, and have ended up using some small Plano fly fishing boxes instead. Might have to track down one or two of those grenade pouches though. That sounds pretty handy.

I have made a couple tins. I have the regular one filled with fishing, fire making and a little first aid. But my favorite one is this Altoids smalls tin with only stuff in it for fire making.

Fire steel w striker
little prices from a starter log
waterproof matches wrapped in paper towel
Charcloth
Alcohol prep pad (great fire starter)
And some gunpowder. Not sure if it has a practical fire starting use but its really fun when you're showing someone how to use a firesteel for the first time :-)

And the Becker of course

Altoids in your Altoids tin is actually a pretty good plan - peppermint is a powerful insect repellent, and it keeps the 'squitos from following your CO2 plume.

I have a mini survival kit in mine, a few matches, tinfoil, a plastic bait, hook, line, a teensy bit of duct tape, a band aid, a 2x2 gauze pad, and I polished the lid and punched a hole in it to use as a signal mirror, then covered the whole shebang with hi-viz orange duct tape and secured it together with a ranger band.
I don't carry it in my 7 sheath though, I ditched the stock one for a Spec-Ops model with no pouch. It goes in my back right pocket.

How do you get the space blanket and the tin in that sheath pocket?

I have the same sheath and with the tin there isn't much more room.

Thanks

Jeremy

I keep three ranger bands wrapped around my tin to help keep it shut but they have lots of other uses. Inside I have:
2 pieces of fatwood
3 needles
1 length of copper wire
1 exacto knife blade
1 small piece of duct tape
1 Boy scout Hot spark fire steel
6 lifeboat matches and striker double bagged
1 ESEE survival card
1 Fresnel lense and case
2 PJCB's double bagged
1 mini Bic
1 sewing bobbin of nylon thread wrapped in electrical tape
1 length of nylon cord
1 razor blade

Damn, moose, that's a huge firesteel, where did you get that? I've never seen a firesteel that size on one of these ESEE firekits!

Several fire straws, a BSA Hot Spark firestarter, a mini-Bic lighter, small keychain light, whistle, spare stainless nut/bolt for my BK9 handles and an allen wrench for them.

I see a lot of good ideas. I am going to steal some. I really like the mini tabasco with fuel. Also never though of carrying gun powder. My inner pryro is intrigued.

SMOKELESS powder, I presume.
Blackpowder is a bit more.... shock-sensitive. And hydroscopic.

The powder is for amusement when teaching. For seriousness I take it out and put more charcloth

Flint, steel, coil of jute, and some char cloth in one tin and r&r supplies for when it gets around forty minutes to five in another tin.

I carry Peppermint Altoids in my Altoids tin. Am I supposed to be carrying something else? I mean, they are delicious, and I want them to last as long as possible, so the tin is much better than the pocket.

I do have one used tin, containing a signal mirror, a book of MRE matches, a small chunk of dryer lint, a spool of waxed dental floss (removed from the white box), 2 small zipties.

Not the end all and be all of Altoids "goodies", but it has helpful stuff in it. I usually carry a small ammo pouch with the essentail survival gear in it, the tin just holds teh really small stuff.
