What do you consider "Perfect" knives?

Knives that are so well designed, so well built, that *no* improvements are possible....

for me, only one knife qualifies, the Spyderco Cricket, i know i've been talking a lot recently about this "little big knife", but i really love it, it's the knife i instinctively reach for for 99% of my cutting tasks, it's actually displaced my Dyad Jr as favorite (no, the Dyad Jr. is *NOT* for sale.... ;) )

what are your "perfect" knives?

For a folder i deffinately have to say my Manix.
For a fixed blade ill have to say my Camp Tramp.

My new Cabela's Alaskan Guide Buck 110.

I cannot think of anything that I would change about the knife.

Good luck,
Allen.

Becker BK7 is a great camping knife.
Ontario SP-6 is a monster fighter.
Kershaw Echo is as handy as an extra hand.
Spyderco Endura is a must have.

I have two 'perfect' folding knives, which are drastically different.

Emerson CQC-10 is one. The ergos are superb (fits my hand better than my 710, my Police, my Delica, whatever). Blade shape is ideal for me. It takes care of any cutting task, and never leaves me saying "I wish this knife had more belly," or "I wish it had more point." I like the Wave feature quite a bit. Don't really need it, but it's nice to have it in case I need to cut something quickly in the event of some type of accident (and it opens my beer). The chisel-ground edge may be less than desirable for some, but I don't mind in the least. I've reprofiled it slightly, so it takes a finer, sharper edge, and each time I sharpen it I give it a couple licks on the reverse side as well. The end result (after however much time) will be a standard V-grind at an angle that I like -- it will be an evolutionary process, and it will grow closer to exactly what I want each time I sharpen it.

The other is a Case CV trapper. This knife takes an ungodly sharp edge, and holds it. The two blades are ideal, one for utility, and one for skinning & food prep. I like this pattern better than other traditional patterns for several reasons. First, it fills my hand, while stockmen, canoes, etc. usually feel a little small. It's not as heavy as a 110 or 112, and uses better steel (and I don't really need a lock). Lastly, the blades are nice and long; the trapper pattern is almost as good as the toothpick when it comes to maxing out the blade-to-handle ratio.
Besides, it looks pretty too. :)

Peace.

I don't know about perfect, but

spyderco calypso jr. (VG10) small, light wicked sharp. I guess it can't be "perfect" since I hear the zdp version is even better :)

Himalayan Imports 18" WWII khukri. Big enough for serious chopping about as big as I can go short of a two handed axe. hand forged, works perfectly, just something about it. My introduction to HI, recommended to me by Uncle Bill Martino himself, perfect if for no other reason than that!

The perfect knife for me is made from quality, properly heat treated steel, that has excellent geometry for its intended use. This excellent geometry also makes the knife a pleasure to sharpen as well as use. I only have a few knives that I deem perfect in these catagories, some custom made some not.

IMO, all of the following knives represent an excellent synthesis of function, design, aesthetics, fit, finish, and materials:

Sean O’Hare Silver Raven
Large Classic Sebenza with micarta inlay
Al Mar SERE 2K
Chris Reeve Shadow 7”
Swamp Rat Ratweiler

SOG Topo Contour with a custom-made grip (without the big SOG on it).
Peter Atwood Goblin tigerstripped.
Kershaw Leek or Centofante with Damast blade and white micarta or bone.

Regards, vC

The "perfect" knife is always the one that's with you...when you really need it.

Thomas
Kershaw Knives

William Henry T10 Black and Tan Carbon Fiber. It's perfect for the office environment, and light enough to clip to any pants I wear.

Vaquero Grande. This knife will cut through virtually anything -- and you can even use it to chop with. My girlfriend uses it in the kitchen.

If we're talking about production knives, I'd say the "perfectest" of the bunch would be the CRK Mnandi.
