What do you cut?

Wow this topic took off nicely!

I forgot to mention that I have, when in a pinch, split wood with my Scallion! :D

sorry, ive noticed my posts tend to drive things to the realm of the off topic :). ill be good i promise

No worries, I was happy about the enthusiasm not at all about the slight off topic slant.....

Ahhh..... alcohol wipes for the goo! Great tip :thumbup:

I cut fuel and heater hose, plastic straps from packaging, cardboard, zip, ties paper, (for note pads) even use it to trim the errant bush or plant outside that is over growing its space. Even my lunch (sandwich). After I clean it.

true, but i don't have to use safety precautions around an alcohol wipe :D

Another great-working (and pretty safe) goo-remover for knife and scissor blades is Pre-Electric Shave Lotion...dissolves goo better than an alcohol wipe.

With respect to what I cut with my knives...I open lots of boxes, so I cut all kinds of tape; then there's wood, twine, rope, cardboard, packing straps, insulation (wire and other), sheetrock, food at times, tie wraps (when it's unavoidable...I prefer dikes), foliage, loose threads, plastic (if it's the tough bubble packs, I hate to use my knives and prefer kitchen shears when they're available); the foil and plastic seals on bottles of anti-freeze, windshield washer fluid, medicine, mayo, etc.; basically anything I don't use diagonal cutters, saws, pruning shears, tin snips or scissors on.

Ray :)

I cut rope, bailing twine, poly wire, tape, boxes, and all sorts of other stuff. I also like a knife that I can use to cut my cuticles and clean my nails... That's sort of a nervous habbit I try to curb in polite company. I guess I'm showing my rural roots:D

cardboard, tape, packing peanuts (its slightly adictive :p), various food items.

btw, I used my JYD2 to cut my steak on memorial day :D worked great :D

Hmmm, on an average day? Boxes, plastic wrap, packaging, whatever I'm eating, if I'm out working in the yard small branches, roots, weeds, etc., and in my spare time I hand carve wood decoys....ok, I'm lying about the decoys, but everything else is on the level.:D

Here's an unusual one:

I had a shave at home and when I got to work I realised that I missed some hair.

So I pulled out my Tyrade and started shaving!

It took off some hairs but more surface skin (without bleeding) so I gave up.

I have thought about that very thing...dry shaving. but when i think about it, facial hair is so tough, that it makes sense why we use shaving cream. it helps soften the stupid hairs, and keeps our face from being eaten up. kinda as a lubricant. of course what do i know, i have a beard lol

try shaving with some shaving cream and the tyrade...bet that it works then :D

Yeah, I didn't have shaving cream at the time.

My facial hair is as thick and strong as they come. The Tyrade managed to take off some hairs but there was a lot of skins particles too.

I don't use a razor anyway to shave so I probably won't find out what it's like with the shaving cream.

Spiral, what is poly wire?

Used a JYD yesterday to cut up a caramel apple at a local fair for the kiddies. The caramel stuck to EVERYTHING - except the knife blade. I was impressed.

I asked a co-worker today to hold a bag of shipping labels while I cut
the plastic bag to get them out. I said "watch your hands, it's sharp".
I'll be damned if I didn't cut myself in the process. :o

When he stopped laughing,(:grumpy:) he got me a band-aid. :D

I just took a tennis racket apart using the help of my Shallot. Boy those strings are tough! The Shallot work well but needs some sharpening soon. WOW!

Cutting yourself is bad for your health. I advise against it! :D

I use my knife for:
Cardboard
Finger nails/cuticles
Tape
Packaging
Zip ties
Envelopes
Pretty much anything wrapped in plastic
Threads
Shaving wood
Clothes tags
Sandwich
Showing off my flicking skills ()
and occaisionally accidentally slicing myself :o
