What do you decide to carry?

Whatever knife I feel like carrying is what I grab usually. Sometimes I'm tired and just grab whichever one I see first on my desk. Other times I have dulled or abused the edges to all my other knives at work so I choose the one that is still sharp.

Same thing I’ve carried for years.

A Benchmade Griptilian H20. I’ve carried it since 2014. I recently upgraded it with a set of Wilkins fire anodized titanium grips. A worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.

I also carry a Randall model 15 as well. Upturned brass hilt on that one. Those are the 2 I grab and use daily.

My current edc rotations is currently a PM2, an American Lawman, and a Ritter Griptilian.. For heavy work days, a Recon 1 or an Ultimate Hunter.

It honestly depends on how I feel when I'm getting ready to walk out the door. I'm usually exhausted, so I end up carrying a strong slim folder with a 3+ inch blade. IE: Manix 2. On the weekends around the house I often carry a SAK Tinker hung from a TEC P-7 in my front pocket. Basically....a strong, lightweight, and slim folder at work, and some flavor of SAK utility on the weekends.

Lately it's been a chaparral either full Ti, or carbon fiber. The other different thing I've been doing is, using that 5th pocket. I've been rotating SAK farmer, or lionsteel shuffler, or GEC 06 pemberton muslin micarta.

I'm into medium or small knives for edc, but I still love my big knives. Sometimes I'll go into the Spyderco pack and grab something different. I like choices even thou I'm a creature of habit.

I have a few activity specific knives, such as a Pac Salt for ocean/warer duty.

I have two or three that I gravitate to for hard use. If I think there’s a higher than average risk of loss, dammage, or confiscation, that will affect my choice too.

Most of the time none of the above applies. I look at my knives and grab the one that speaks to me most on a guven day. I carry it until something else speaks louder. That could be a few hours or a few days.

For a while, I would pull 3-4 knives out of the safe on Sunday and rotate through those specific knives for a week, then repeat again the next Sunday. That was fun, but my discipline broke down.

Something smaller for work that can drop in slacks pocket, no clip for me in the office.

Off work a spyderco usually (pm 2, Millie, etc).

As far as the decision, look for a few seconds and grab one

I typically carry the same folder every day during the work week as a way for myself to limit distractions and stay focused. (CQC-7B, no wave, partially serrated)

I'll switch it up on the weekend to treat myself, and I may change knives numerous times on those 2 days as at any given time I've got 15 to 20 knives in my collection so the weekend is a fun time to play with all of them, and then go back to my staple CQC7 for the weekdays.

Typically go for my plain small Sebenza 21. It's super light, easy to clean, and zero nonsense. I wear a suit 99-100% of the time, so weight is important to me. Also, since I'm in an office, I try to avoid knives that looks threatening or "scary" for EDC.

Formerly: Pick the EDC knife du jour based on the day’s schedule/activities while rotating EDC knives to the greatest possible degree.
Presently: I’m participating in a "one-year challenge” to EDC only one knife for an entire year. It’s something that not many of us here are or even would or could be into, but it’s turning out to be a perspective-changing learning experience. I’m now 6 1/2 weeks into it and comfortably in the groove, though I do still miss carrying some of my favorites. This challenge is causing me to look at my collection and possible additional purchases in a totally different way.

That's absolutely fascinating. What a challenge.

It’s in the CRK forum and it isn’t easy. I have 20 EDC’s and I’ve left 19 of them at home for >49 days now. I feel like a kid who's neglecting almost all of his favorite toys and not having as much fun for doing so. Nonetheless, it’s giving me a new perspective on how many knives I actually need and it’s taken the all the enjoyment out of researching possible new purchases. I suppose my checking account balance will thank me in the long run, but the unvarying EDC diet is monotonous and mechanical.

Knife length, clip/no clip, and weight is usually determined by the style of pants (pockets.) Handle material and construction coordinates with my watch and belt buckle.
I thought everyone did it this way. ?????

I've got a drawer full of knives but really only a handful that I actually use.

I've settled on a Buck 112 for general use. I've got several 112s and rotate through them as I want. Been carrying the 112LT alot lately. Also usually carry folding utility knife when I'm working in addition to a 112.

Here lately I've been carrying a Victorinox Tinker as well. I always looked at them as a childs toy but I'm finding it handy for random tasks and changing my opinion on them. Use the screwdrivers alot taking off switch plates and things. I used it to change a trip lever drain on a bathtub the other day. Worked great and saved me a trip back down 3 flights of stairs to the truck for an actual screwdriver.

I've got a Case medium Stockmen and a Buck 55 I carry as dress knives.

Currently I carry a 3.25 to 4" folder as my primary knife, and I have a fixed blade of some sort. My latest fixed blade fixation has been the Bastinelli Pika, never thought I'd like karambits until I saw this.

For work I typically take my Para 3. Otherwise, rotate among my other knives.

These days my most common EDC is a Spyderco Ladybug clipped to a Leatherman Style PS. Without the Ladybug, the little Leatherman is TSA compliant so I can carry it on. The Ladybug is a surprisingly capable small blade, so it is a nice everyday combination.

For dressier situations I have a Mnandi in cocobolo that I wear clipped in my shirt pocket. For more heavy duty tasks I take a Small Sebenza Insingo. The Small Senbenza is a beautiful knife and a pleasure to use, but it is a little more knife than I need on a daily basis around town.

I currently rotate between a Large Micarta DP Sebenza 21, Small CF 21 insingo, and a Benchmade Custom Shop Mini Crooked River in D2. Ill throw a GEC in on occasion.

Really depends on my mood. I recently received my Spdyerco Tropen, so I've been T&E'ing it the past week or so which I carry as my "primary" folder. I carry a few knives, simply because of my environment is more permissive and I can.

So my primary (right pocket) rotates between an Emerson CQC8, Protech Magic 2 Whiskers, Benchmade Adamas auto, and now the Tropen.

Weak-side (left) pocket rotates between a Benchmade Emissary or the Benchmade Arcane. Both of these assisted folders are perfect for weak-hand use and I love their thin-blade profile. If I go "big", I love Hogue's 4" X5 flipper and it has a very functional left-pocket clip. Another one that gets added in is a Spyderco Para-Mil with a left-side, deep pocket clip...it's a very utilitarian design.

Back-pocket, (right) strong side rotates between a Spyderco Yo Jimbo 2, or a Boker Urban Trapper frame-lock, and now the CRKT Slacker. All of these are excellent utility blades.

Last folder is my back weak-side (left) pocket and where I also carry my wallet. The dominant folder that gets carried consistently is my Microtech Ultratech. It just so happens to have a tanto blade, but it fits the location perfectly and is used quite often as it's so easy to access, open, and close one handed. Plus the Germans I work with always get jealous :)

I also carry a fixed blade, small of back, in a scout-style Kydex sheath (both from Armatus). I rotate between a TOPS CUT 4.0 and an ESEE 3. Both excellent blades, but the ESEE is a little more utilitarian. Choice depends on my "combat casual" attire of the day.

Oh, I have a Victorinox Spirit X in a Blue Force Gear mag-pouch (elastic) sheath as well...very svelte and when needed, it's extremely handy!

I have other blades, but these are the primary choices. They just seem to work for me and my occupation and I enjoy a little variety in life.

Rethinking with my current situation I too only keep out the ones that are sharp. Now that I'm (hopefully) home permanently, I have a few that need some work. I don't have the dexterity yet to sharpen myself, plus I suck at it. Gonna have to send them out.

Today was the ZT 0095BLK. It's my largest folder, but the fiddle factor is amazing.

It's gotta have a good fiddle factor right now while I'm laid up. Unless a specific blade shape is needed, like the Yojimbo 2 for cutting pills.

I currently have 2 fixed blades, though one is in my storage pod. I have a Spyderco Aqua Salt black bladed with full spyderedge. Great for pumpkin carving. I let my dad take it with him on his annual spring trip to Sturgeon Bay fishing for walleye.

Current rotation.

The aforementioned 0095BLK
Manix 2 CTS-XHP
Bailey model 2
Domino

I gotta find my torx set to tighten the clip on my Kizer, then it will be back in the rotation.

The SG SM CF, and Brous Bionic need sharpening.

I'm unable to open my TSF Beast. Thumbstuds are not my friend right now, especially with that tight detent.

Gayle Bradley needs reassembly, it's developed some play. I don't have the strength to close it so it's not a priority.

I have a new friend coming later in the week, and I predict it being glued to my pocket for a while.
