What do you decide to carry?

I usually dress for the occasion.
Normally it's a small traditional, for basic cutting tasks. Something that will work, and won't break my heart if it gets lost or damaged.

If I think I may need more, I carry something bigger or better.
I always keep a bigger blade in the vehicle.

For my EDC presently I carry an SAK Huntsman in a belt case right side. A Wenger Patriot in the left front pocket. An SAK money clip with small blade in the left front pocket. I carried daily the Patriot and a SAK Centurian for 12 years along with the money clip. Last November I swapped the Centurian for the Huntsman as I wanted the saw, larger scissors, and the corkscrew to put the small eyeglass screwdriver into. The Patriot is only 3/16" wide with one blade so you don't even know it's there. I use the huntsman on a daily basis for something or other, the patriot opens the mail. I am comfortable with carrying these three items daily, I have tried to trade out the patriot but always go back to it because of it's smallness. I have a lot of pocket knives but these three are the standards.

Really depends on my mood. I recently received my Spdyerco Tropen, so I've been T&E'ing it the past week or so which I carry as my "primary" folder. I carry a few knives, simply because of my environment is more permissive and I can.

So my primary (right pocket) rotates between an Emerson CQC8, Protech Magic 2 Whiskers, Benchmade Adamas auto, and now the Tropen.

Weak-side (left) pocket rotates between a Benchmade Emissary or the Benchmade Arcane. Both of these assisted folders are perfect for weak-hand use and I love their thin-blade profile. If I go "big", I love Hogue's 4" X5 flipper and it has a very functional left-pocket clip. Another one that gets added in is a Spyderco Para-Mil with a left-side, deep pocket clip...it's a very utilitarian design.

Back-pocket, (right) strong side rotates between a Spyderco Yo Jimbo 2, or a Boker Urban Trapper frame-lock, and now the CRKT Slacker. All of these are excellent utility blades.

Last folder is my back weak-side (left) pocket and where I also carry my wallet. The dominant folder that gets carried consistently is my Microtech Ultratech. It just so happens to have a tanto blade, but it fits the location perfectly and is used quite often as it's so easy to access, open, and close one handed. Plus the Germans I work with always get jealous :)

I also carry a fixed blade, small of back, in a scout-style Kydex sheath (both from Armatus). I rotate between a TOPS CUT 4.0 and an ESEE 3. Both excellent blades, but the ESEE is a little more utilitarian. Choice depends on my "combat casual" attire of the day.

Oh, I have a Victorinox Spirit X in a Blue Force Gear mag-pouch (elastic) sheath as well...very svelte and when needed, it's extremely handy!

I have other blades, but these are the primary choices. They just seem to work for me and my occupation and I enjoy a little variety in life.

Haha, I count 6. I think your looking at a "few" knives in the rearview mirror. I like it.

One of my simple pleasures is selecting a knife for the day, so why muck it up with rational thinking? I'm most likely guided by a whim or a memory that will come back to me when I pull the knife from my pocket.

Wow, really deep thinker.....,

This isn’t an exact representation of my daily carry but it’s close. I never carried the Karambit in the picture, but if you replace that with the Spyderco Yojimbo II and add in a NAA .22 Mag it’s pretty much my daily EDC.

Yojimbo II in right pocket for SD
Well worn SOG Flash II for regular cutting in left. Will be replaced by an incoming Native 5 S110V
Apple Watch on right wrist
Timex Maxpedition Shock on left (huge numbers, fast stopwatch, easy to time clients, battery never dies)
Glock 26 in pic, also carry a G43. Own a few G19’s as well but teach with those mostly.
Wedding ring, James Avery compass leather thingy (my wife also wears one so we match)

Prefer to have everything on me but often the G26 rides off body in a maxpedition as I constantly have to demonstrate body movements and the Glock gets in the way. NAA comes in handy then for pocket carry. Spare mag always off body but close by.

Not in the picture is a Trayvax wallet with the crazy stupid number of cards I carry.

I'm down to these final carry knives after all these years...

Spyderco PM2
Spyderco Sage 2
Spyderco Manix 2 CF S90V
Benchmade 710 M2HS
Ontario Rat 3.5 inch 1095 carbon steel
Leatherman Wave and Charge Ti.

That's it! All are great knives and multis.

I'm realizing that I prefer a lighter weight knife, but a bigger blade. So I have 2 Endura's and I rotate between those 2. Sometimes I'll carry a Grip. I really like the Crooked River but it's too heavy. Work knives are my RAT 1's. Boat knife is a Mora Serrated SS.

I usually carry something new if I have it. Today it's a mini auto Reflex and a new PM3 I just got. I regularly carry a GEC barlow or a SAK tinkerer in my pocket and a clipped knife. I have about 5 or 6 slip joints that I rotate through and 3 or so clipped knives. When backpacking I take an old small griptilian just because it's old and worn. When traveling by air I take it too actually, and a few from my travel slip joint collection. I've lost or had knives stolen from luggage so nothing expensive.

Currently my only EDC is a Bastinelli/Marcaida Pika karambit that I carry for emergency SD use; much less hassle than carrying a gun which is legal for me to do.

I also carry another knife everyday but which I choose just depends on my whim that particular day; actually prior evening, because that's when I generally choose the knife that I'll carry the following day.

To be honest, it just depends on my mood and if I have not carried it in awhile. I like to carry one clipped to my left front pocket, lately Manly Wasp in Sandvik because it is light weight and I like the feeling of a sturdy knife, but also like the the light weight of my Opinel stainless #6. I may EDC my OPinel #8 Garden knife or the #8 carbon knife. Just because of the light weight and a minimalist carry.

Thread needs more pics!

These days I'm pretty close to a one-knife-guy, 98% of the time it's this...

For camping and BBQs where I anticipate some level of beer opening ability will be required, it's this...

And I have this but don't decide to carry it very often, usually if I'm going to the city or backpacking...

A few other traditional knives sneak in the rotation for special occasions. I try not to make the decisions complicated.

What I carry depends on where and what I'm doing. Standard EDC is a PM2. If where I am requires increased vigilance I'll have a Fox Karambit. I use very expensive camera equipment worth thousands of dollars. In my left pocket is the PM2 and in my right the Fox Karambit. I've never needed to use either for protection, but it is reassuring to be prepared.

I carry what I feel like carrying. I have 2-3 I EDC fairly consistantly, though.

I used to rotate my knives but in the last 2 years it's always been the same knife.
It just works the best for my needs.

The first deciding factor is activity/intended use. For example if I'm hiking I usually go with the Ritter Grip, for heavy-duty outdoor work I pick the Adamas, Kayaking I go with the Pacific Salt, etc, etc.

The next thing that comes into account is my attire (which is also dependent on my activity obviously). When I'm in casual mode, I like to have my knife, watch, and shades tie in with each other and also to the clothes I'm wearing. I'll occasionally wear bright pops of color with that color carried throughout with these items. I know it may seem silly to some, but don't hate me because I'm beautiful :p. It's a way for me to tie the hobbies of collecting these items together, plus it's an excuse to buy more knives :D.

Most days however, I do a little bit of everything. I may start of with a walk in the wilderness for a few miles, then go handle some business/errands, pick the kids up from school, go out to eat supper, then back to a wild spot to walk around and watch the sunset. I wear casual clothes that are functional enough for the outdoors yet nice enough for when I venture into civilization. The knife that I have found to fit these uses best, and therefore the knife I now carry most on a daily basis is the Large Inkosi Insingo. For my uses at the moment it might be my perfect one knife.
