Hey fellas and gals,

Just wondering, what do some of you people do for a day job?

(I'm just at a crossroad in my life and am currently considering new venues to pursue).

Thanks! :p

P.S. I used to work in the stock market industry before it took a dump. Marketing/Advertising for a few years. Then most recently construction. I like being outdoors more than stuck behind a desk.

I was working on cars when I first started making knives (good free scraps there). Worked in a convient store for a while after that, and now I just got a new job I start in a week as a metal finisher at a fabrication job shop, hopefully that goes well.

I am a development project manager for a digital periodicals aggregator. I basically write application requirements then ensure they are met. The upside is that i get magazine subscriptions at absurd prices. I get rolling stone for $2.25 per year....thats less than the postage to send it!....I can get prices like that for almost every magazine published, which comprise the vast majority of my xmas gifts, haha!

Editor for the Internet department of an outdoor retail chain.

I am supposed to be the Graphics manager at a display company...when I know whats going on with jobs !! :)

I work at a real estate office and do high end finish carpentry on the side. I also detail cars every now and then, its easy money.

I make KMG belt grinders for knifemakers. I was on a formal career path for a midwest manufacturing company heading up the corporate engineering/sales ladder.....with big income, company car...expense account....blah blah blah. But 9/11 made me realize that the world can change too quickly to let it pass by without enjoying it. So I bailed out of the pressure cooker to something more relaxing and truly enjoyable. No more cell phones, pagers, last minute plane flights to a meeting issuing my best case of damage controll for some mistake that happened with a customer. No more stress!!

I rarely carry a cell phone any more. When the weather is nice, I ride a bicycle to the shop. It is a big finacial hit...Don't think we'll get that vacation home on the beach anymore....but I am so much happier and healthy without the stress.

No regrets and I've never looked back after going full time on my own!

Good Luck and enjoy the journey!

I am a stay at home Mom. Got tried of the crap dealing with the PCA's that I been hiring and firing to take care of my Lady. Now I just got to setup a routine to get back into making knives. :D
At one time I was a Production Control Manager, work for this firm for 34 years until they down sized. :D

Self-employed machinist and full-time knifemaker.

I also drink gin, give backrubs, tell fortunes, flatulate, invent stuff, play with the dog, go fishing and live life. Today is a good day.

How much for one of those backrubs?:D

I am the Director of Engineering at a metal fabrication Manufacturer. I have access to two 5000 watt lasers and all the scrap structural that i can use. Lousy pay, great perks.

That's why IG likes you so much!

I am a geologist and it as much as an obsession as knifemaking, so it's a good way to make a living, although it will never make me rich..
