What do you do in the winter???

Here in the winter, the rains come and the world turns green
It is cool to cold and lovely for hike in
So it is much easier than the heat of the summer

It has been extremely cold the past few weeks here. Temperatures have gotten to -20F and lower several times and the wind chills have been unbelievably cold. Unfortunately, those that would tell you that "it is too cold to snow" would be wrong. Dead wrong. :grumpy:

We have gotten a lot of snow this winter. I mean a LOT.

What do I do in the winter? It seems that all I've done this winter is shovel out the CRV so I can go to work.

Then it snows again and I shovel it out again. Then it snows some more. I shovel some more.

And it snows and snows. And snows. I shovel out the CRV and it snows again even more. And I shovel and shovel and it snows and I'm shoveling and it's snowing and snowing and I'm shoveling and cussing and it's still $&@#% snowing and snowing even more and I keep shoveling and I'm sweating and shoveling and it keeps on snowing and the plow just went by and filled in the end of my driveway and I'm shoveling and it's snowing and I keep shoveling and the snow won't stop falling! And I'm shoveling and SHOVELING BUT THE STUPID SNOW IS STILL FALLING and WHERE ON EARTH is all this darned snow COMING FROM?? I'm shoveling and shoveling and shoveling and it's snowing faster and harder so I shovel faster and faster and shovel and it snows and the CRV is STILL covered with snow and I shovel and shovel and I GIVE UP!

I'm seriously thinking of quitting my job and hibernating for the rest of the winter.

Ha, you sound like a friend of mine who's up around Chicago.
She sent me three messages a few hours apart the other day, each to inform me that she'd just shoveled her driveway, since I'd been excited about some snowflakes sticking to my deck.

I do the same thing on my winter outings as my spring, summer, and fall ones. I just sweat less doing it...

How would you like to trade houses for the next couple of months? :D

Went snow-shoeing for the first time this past week-end!! What a BLAST!!! Rented the shoes and am now looking to buy!! Will go again!!! John

Hmmm...you know, there are machines called Snow-Joes, you could check in Home Depot or Lowes. I have heard they work well. As for the snow, becareful and stay warm..cant snow everyday...and it melts.

-_-....wish I could play in the snow..

Lately all I do is remove snow and carry firewood. I shoveled 5 days this week. The snow is too deep to walk in without snowshoes. I walked the property line looking for deer tracks a few days ago. I'm in shape but I thought I was going to have a heart attack due to the snow being well over my waist. At least it gets me outside in the crisp fresh air.

Lately been cross country skiing with my daughter and we been having a lot of fun with it. Also ride 4 wheelers and pulling sleds behind them. Here you roll with the snow or pretty much live on the couch and we just don't do that!!!

Lots of hiking here. Very little snow, temperatures from 14 - 55 degrees depending on the day and no snakes or yellow jackets! The best time to hike. Also we never go without our throwing hawks, bows, throwing knives or a light spear or two. Find a dead tree standing soft enough to protect the knives and pull them out but hard enough to stay there and not fall on you! Lots 'o' fun.

I'm just glad that work takes me out of North America for part of the winter. This was my February weather, last week.

OK, I give up. Where?

Those pics are from two different Nature Reserves near Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia.
Temperatures were in the 80s and it was very humid. Not many other folks were "out and about" on those days, in fact both places I had the entire Reserve to myself.

This is from a third natural area also near Mudgee called "The Drip." It's on private land but open to the public.

Beats the hell outta shoveling snow. :D

(Gee, really? I didn't think anything was better than shoveling snow!)

These look like really beautiful places — thanks! And enjoy!

I don't get out enough any time of the year, but winter in the Southeast US is a great time to explore the woods and you seldom run into any people on the trails except the short trails in State Parks. I do like State Parks a lot however because of the wonderful scenery. There is usually a geographical reason for the park other than just a place to have some camp sites and picnic tables. The other benefit of winter exploring is that water levels tend to be good in the mountain streams. The best part is NO TICS.

I tend to stay indoors or work when the temps are below 32 degrees, like this morning.

Winter is a great time for trout fishing especially on the milder days. I was crusing through the Nantahala River area (NC) a couple weeks ago and thought I'd explore a little. Lots of fisherman out in the river upstream from the power house discharge point. Made me itch to have a rod in my hand. But there were way too many people for me that day. Water was beautiful.

Was in the thick of winter for work out in NYC lastweek, but this is how us CA kids winter. For those in the cold, come visit!

I wish that I could find the pictures on my phone. Most winters a couple of friends and I go winter camping. We have used a tent trailer, camper, and tents. The camper was by far the most enjoyable.

Ice fishing is what brings us to the frozen lake... Whisky keeps us there.

The gasto-intestinal side affects of alcohol while camping on a frozen lake... :barf:

:D

Now I will be cutting up 8cd of firewood for next winter. I just cleared my road for the truck to get in and deliver it. It might get interesting since the wood is on 4' of snow.
