for the first time in my life i have 2 pocket knives.

what do you do with the older knives?

some of you must keep it on rotation but i am more of a minimalist and believe in one good utility tool instead of multiple.

doubt a kershaw link might sell for much

Welcome to bf firstoff.

When I stop carrying a knife, if its sentimental, or I intend to use it at a future time, it gets put in the knife cabinet til I die :D

If its a sub $60 knife, it will usually become a gift to someone.

Over $60ish and ill sell it for a little money to take the lady out or get some drinks at the bar.

REALLY good friends of mine have received knives as gifts from the last category :)

If a knife has been used enough to get retired it means I must like it, which also Means it must be a good user. I don't like to not use a good ( I have my goodknives which are users and my collection of cheapo crap that just looks cool ) or to completely stop using a knife I like, this means that I don't retire knives
Now if I have a knife that I just don't end up liking I'll give it to my dad, bro, or cousin since they're user knives are basically the same flea market crap that I buy to collect.

It depends on the condition. But generally, retiring just means it is not out where I would place it in my pocket to use. I usually keep them. I don't give away really trashy knives as a gift reflects on the gifter.

I would keep it but if you really feel the need to unload it:

Go to your local watering hole, have a beer or three and slip it on the bar as you leave, or leave it on the sink in the restroom!

It's like trail magic for drinkers!

I usually give them to my sons. They're all over 40, so I don't have to worry, (too much!), about them hurting themselves with them. They put them to good use.

Darthwayne,

One Knife, God Bless You!

I remember when I had one knife. Times were good back then. It was a Buck 102, still have it. Still use and love it.

My suggestion is, place the knife gently on top of your computer. Then go to the busiest road you can find. Gently place the computer with the knife still on top, in the most traveled section of road. Prefferably at night in the dark.

Then, turn and run as fast as you can. And just like Lot, never look back.

Or more realistically give your extra blade to some young deserving person. If your brother is enlisting that would be perfect. Then never log on here again.

I owned one knife when I found this place. And three guns, a .22, a 12 gauge, and a .35 Marlin. Oh to have those days back.

If you have only two knives, consider the old one a spare tire. It's not going to take up a lot of storage space.
No one intends to loose a knife, but they don't plan on having a flat tire either. If it makes no difference to you, give it away.

I like to do this too; leave stuff around for people to find, not necessarily at bars but ideas the same, I always enjoy finding awesome things randomly so I guess that's why I do it lol

I'd toss it in the trunk with my emergency gear and supplies. You have a back-up stash, right? Maybe get your bro a multi-tool, I've read a bunch on BF that mil personnel get more use out of those more than regular folders.

The other day i found an old buck knife. i believe it may have been a cadet. The only catch? it was laying open, blade up in the road. Oh and it was night. Glad i didnt find it with my tire...

Most of my knives are relatively new and I use them all. I have some older knives that have been displaced because I've bought a lot of newer knives. My older ones I still like, but they have been used enough that they wouldn't sell for much money. Some older knives were used less and in better shape so I did sell them. And I've given away a few. But still as I buy new ones the total numbers keep increasing.

cheap knives (under $100) get gifted.
Nicer ones that don't have sentimental value, too much resale value, but no longer have use for get shoved various bags as backups like GHB, trunk bag, camping bags etc
Nicer ones that I don't have use for but are easy sales generally get sold.
Ones that look nice become decoration.
I only have two sentimental knives (first custom and high end knife) and those will never get sold but still get some occasional use.
