What do you do with retired knives?

Gift, relegate to work knife status, keep the new one for casual, or simply toss it in the glovebox/toolbox/tacklebox/junk drawer for just in case...

I would keep it but if you really feel the need to unload it:

Go to your local watering hole, have a beer or three and slip it on the bar as you leave, or leave it on the sink in the restroom!

It's like trail magic for drinkers!

I do this sometimes with knives I don't use anymore or have 'retired'.

I'll go out to the lake and manage to drop it by the boat launch ramp where the fisherman put their bass boats in the water. Or I'll take a short hike on a well marked trail in the local state park and manage to 'loose' a knife where it will be discovered by a fellow hiker or picnicker. I've also left it at the shooting range on a bench.

I've given a few away down by the small lake where we live. There's often some kid fishing by the shore or out on one of the two fishing piers. I'll see a kid and ask him "Hey Kid, did you drop your kife?" while holding up the one I'm retiring. When he says no, I tell him it looks like someone dropped it, so why don't he hang onto it in case they come looking, and if nobody shows up jet keep it. They are as happy as a surprise visit from the tooth fairy.

Anonymous gifting of knives is fun.
