Recommendation? What do you do with the fancy boxes your knives come in?

I have accumulated a small stack of fancy boxes from my RR, Marbles, Boker, and Queen knives. I am wondering what all of you do with yours? Do you throw them out? Keep them? Use them for something else?

My wife wants the dining room table back, for some reason....

I've always left them lying around until they get stepped on a few times. I've thrown out a few hopelessly trampled ones, but I've started putting them in a drawer in the basement.

I save my GEC tubes, but all the other boxes get thrown away.
I used to throw the GEC tubes away too, but it's harder to sell them without one... GEC buyers can be a picky bunch.

I keep them incase I want to sell the knife again.
Buyers often appreciate the box and whatever comes with it.

For me it's not so difficult to store them because I have a small collection.
I can imagine if your collection brings along a 100 or more boxes, it's different.

I have boxes for storage I keep in the basement. Its good to keep them, especially GEC tubes if you decide to sell at some point.

Yeah, I'm up to about 150.

Please don't tell my wife....

I've never sold a knife here or elsewhere in my life, so that isn't a consideration concerning knife boxes.
Some I keep, like vintage knives I purchase that come with boxes and some just because. Most knife boxes, I toss.

Keep the boxes and think about changing your matrimonial status. 😝

I keep the boxes in a cardboard box in the attic. Out of the way, but available if needed. I just needed the original box for a knife used in a trade, so you never know. You expect a knife to be packaged a certain way when purchased new, and your potential buyers, inheritors, recipients of gifts will appreciate the box as well.

I keep 'em all, stored in shoe boxes in a closet. There's always been a lot of counterfeits in knife trading, and having the original box is a good assurance of authenticity. They are harder to counterfeit than the knives.

If the knife is in any way collectable, I usually store it in the box/tube that it came with. This helps to identify the knife for me, and someday, whoever gets the job of dealing with these things when I am gone.

I've kept my boxes in boxes. 😁

Seriously though, I've been reluctant to toss any boxes for my knives. If nothing else, the boxes often have more specific label info about limited runs of knives, mfr. dates and item/catalog numbers (aside from pattern numbers). Without such information, it becomes harder to track down such information elsewhere. So, most of the boxes for my knives have indeed been stashed away in other boxes. At least I know I have them somewhere, even if I can't remember exactly where, most of the time. 😕

Great idea, have you ever thought of opening an excel spreadsheet with all that information as well. Does make it easier if you need or want that info quickly without pulling out boxes. Just a thought.:)

The spreadsheet idea is a good one. For some reason, I'd not even considered it for my knives (or maybe I did, but found it a little daunting and kept putting it off). Would be a BIG project. Over the years, I've accumulated a couple or three hundred knives, many of which are still stashed away in their boxes. I already use spreadsheets to track many other things in my daily life. So it would seem a natural next step, if I ever feel energetic enough to get it started. Such is one of many downsides of aging...
