What do you find is the sharpest knife from the factory?

I’ve acquired quite a few knives and surprisingly a new Hinderer full track was not as sharp as I had thought. The point on that blade is most definitely the pointest. If that’s a word? 😁

Emerson is sharp out the box, some microtech have been good, some not so good. But out of the 15 different brands I have or so, Spyderco is insanely sharp, every knife, no matter where it was made. Razor, curl tiny shreds of paper sharp.

In the last month I have some bleed from spydercos. Tips, blades, especially trying to middle finger flip them.

Just curious what brand you find that anre insanely sharp right out of the box?

Yes they have been doing really well over the years .
Part of what the Japanese / kitchen knives have gong for them is EXTREMELY ACUTE / THIN EDGE GEOMETRY . Not usually found on a folder for more hard use work .

Nah . . . not necessarily ; part of why the Spydercos in general have been so sharp , in the last few hears anyway , is they are sharpened on robots and they are nicely tuned robots .

I think the most acute edges I have received from Syderco have been on 15V knives made in Golden , Colorado .
Usually I reprofile (thin behind the edge and make the edge more acute) just about every knife I get including Spydercos but the BBB 15V knives I just looked over , tried out and put in my pocket with a big smile on my face !
 
I have been in this game a while. I thought I had sharp knives before, however, I recently received a Kunwu Jericho. The combination of the extremely thin blade stock, polished DLC, and the edge geometry- this knife is truly the sharpest production knife I have ever owned! I don’t know if it’s a fluke or great QC. I’d say 25% of my new Spydercos can whittle hair one way, and the production REK Sparrow was insanely sharp out of the box. But the craziest edge I’ve ever seen, was a Japanese Cold Steel Trailmaster.. could cut receipt paper by just pressing upon lightly. Most impressive for such a thick blade with a convex edge!
 
Recent Spyderco's have been consistently extremely sharp from the factory in a way that makes me worry about dulling them because I have yet to be satisfied in my ability to make them as sharp as they were out of the box.

Bucks, for me, have historically been really good, but when it comes time I feel like I make them even more sharp. One notable exception was the Onset, which has a useful, sticky, toothy bevel along the whole...wavy...edge. I've only stropped it a time or two and it's still very sharp, but eventually I think I'll either try a regrind or send it in and see what CS does with it.

I get a lot of performance out of Kershaw, too, being reliably super sharp from the factory.

I agree that most of my Spyderco knives come with a very keen edge. That said, recently I had to touch up a couple that didn't slice phone book paper cleanly in both directions...so I took them to the stone (lightly) to remove any remaining burr or touch them up just a bit.

I can attest to Demko and CRK, plus I’ll add G&G Hawk. My Shiro’s have all been pretty scary as well. Two of them reminded me pretty good to be careful while playing with them. And also my Cold Steel Trailmaster came sharp as a laser. Amazing for such a large knife.
 
The last knives I bought from Spyderco, Cold Steel, Buck, Fox, Viper and Lionsteel came shaving sharp.

Victorinox edges are usually OK, good enough to use out of the box but they can sometimes use a little polishing.

Case has been the worst for me so far. I was lucky that all the slippies I bought had good fit and finish, but the edge grinds were atrocious. I like them, but I know that they need a good amount of work on the stones before being usable.
