What do you find is the sharpest knife from the factory?

The last few knives I've bought (Bradford Guardian 3, Buck Custom Shop 110, Buck Pro 791) have all come shaving sharp. The exception was a Hultafors Heavy Duty Model GK, which came so dull it would only be useful for scraping. Sharpened up nicely though after reprofiling the edge (if you could call it that) back a few degrees.

This is a tough question but I have found that my Spyderco knives have always arrived with a really sharp edge.

I have been in this game a while. I thought I had sharp knives before, however, I recently received a Kunwu Jericho. The combination of the extremely thin blade stock, polished DLC, and the edge geometry- this knife is truly the sharpest production knife I have ever owned! I don’t know if it’s a fluke or great QC. I’ve got a couple too and concur with your findings. And it nails you always right in the middle of your left thumb pad (right handed)…I open a bandaid now before opening a new knife…saves time and drips Ha Ha Ha

other than Demko usa made, Carothers, usa made spydercos and a few others that do always super sharp good edges....... its hit and miss from not bad to okay to all bad.

worst consistently is Boker, regardless where made.......

The last Cold Steel Recon 1 I bought bit me just from touching the cutting edge to my finger. No cutting momentum and barely any pressure. Impressive stuff!

For me, the sharpest fixed blade is a Blackjack Grunt model with a convex grind from the time that Ken Warner owned the company. The sharpest folder was a Canal Street Cutlery trapper model that I foolishly sold a few years back. In each instance, I was astonished at how sharp the edge was.

I find Spyderco’s pretty darn sharp from the factory. And I’ll second the REK production Sparrow comes insanely sharp.

Cold steel used to come pretty sharp, spydies can be sharp, i love me some busse but some times their version of sharp cracks me up. I dont particularly care how sharp a knife comes, I end up making them sharp.

L.T. Wrights come wicked sharp from the maker.

Reiff also does a great job with this.

Honestly, "very sharp" is a pretty low bar these days, and if a maker can't deliver on that, I'm not impressed.

The spydercos I have purchased over the last few years have been impressive. Most knives these days seem to come pretty sharp. Even though I end up putting my own edge on them usually in short order, I do find it disappointing to spend good money for a dull from factory knife.

1) I honestly believe that Buck's hollow-ground knives will cut you without even making contact.

2) My CS 4-MAX Scout (AUS-10?) was terrifyingly sharp when I first received it. I didn't know that such a thick blade could EVER be sharpened to that extent.



*As an "Honorable Mention", my TOPS Pasayten Lite Traveler almost removed the first knuckle of my strong hand index finger, during a weak handed unsheathing. If I was on the blood thinners that I am now, I'm not sure that I'd even be here.
