What do you have in your BUG OUT BAG that no one else has?

You guys are somewhat correct about harmonicas, but that's mostly dependent on who's playing them (same as most instruments). The following might be my all-time favorites:

"When the Levee Breaks" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine" by Led Zeppelin

"Train" by Blackfoot

Deck of cards, if I get lost I can always sit down and play solitaire, pretty soon someone will be along to tell me to play the red queen on the black jack. Condoms, viagra and lube just incase I need to participate in a orgy.

A Lenox TriFold saw and blades. It uses standard reciprocating saw blades, so I can pack blades for wood, metal, demolition, etc. and be prepared for a little bit of everything!

extra smart-wool socks. Nothing feels quite like putting on a new pair of wool socks.

I recently went through my EDC and noted everything i carry and thought about how often i use it's contents..... Some things, like my snare wire, never gets used while other things, like my Leatherman Wave, get used regularly.

Anyway, i noticed i had a couple packs of birthday candles that help with fire making. When dry tinder is harder to 'source', a b-day candle catches easily, burns for a good while and you can carry several for little weight and minimal $.

Get one of the trick ones (here's how they work) and the wind won't blow it out. :D

had a rat trap in my emergency gear long before youtube existed and Dave Canterbury did a video showing them. Mine is modified to be quiet a bit more aggressive than the ones he shows . I was on a hike right out of school in 1980 and an old homeless guy showed me catch squirrels with rat traps

I wonder if anyone has done any in-depth interviews/studies of homeless people and cataloged their survival techniques. The ingenuity that those folks have is often staggering, but as they say "necessity is the mother of invention."

Rat trap with drywall screws sticking up just inside the bail and a hole in the back end to wire it down . they wire it to a long pole to get it out of the line of sight and lean it to look like a limb that fell out of the trees baited with a touch of peanut butter it will hold a fox squirrel but may not kill. so they stay close so they can club it quickly to keep the noise down. I have seen them used in several places but only because I know about them, most would have walked by with out seeing them

They also catch birds in them

There is a very interesting book called The Mole People. I forget the author's name, but she was a sociologist who spent a lot of time with the homeless of NYC, particularly those living in abandoned subway tunnels. Although it was not a survival skill book per se, there were lots of descriptions of their techniques of "urban bushcraft." I gave my copy away to another BF forumite, but I'm sure it is not hard to obtain.

I carry money. If I come staggering back to civilization, I want to be able to: Buy a meal, Buy some clean clothes, Rent a motel room, Take a cab, etc.

Plastic is usually good, but not always. On 9-11 many New York stores only accepted cash.

Also quarters for a pay phone. And a phone card for a card-based pay phone. You never know which style you will encounter.

I realize it's a matter of taste, but to me the best sound a harmonica makes is when it hits the bottom of a dumpster...

And lands on the bagpipes and accordion that are already in there. ;)

I used to own a set of bagpipes. Then one day I left them in the front seat of my car and I forgot to lock the doors.

When I got back to the car, there were two sets of bagpipes.

There is one thing that is not commonly added to these kits that I keep... (arrow) bow fishing point that I can put onto a short spear if I should need to.
