What do you like in a chopper?

I love my B11, but tim has both 1311 and b11. So his feed back on the issue should be super helpful. Kinda sad that above comparison didn't include b11. I never had battle mistresses or bigger Busse choppers, but the g10 handles on steel harts did little to absorb the impact from chopping. Res-c may look less fancy, and to the untrained eye it looks like you are beating a branch with a machete, but the performance and the reduced impact to the hand make it a pleasure to use.

Not a fan of SR101 for chopping though after my hawk chipped I prefer INFI. I do like the SR101 on smaller non chopper knifes.

I'll be doing a chopoff soon, I'll cover B11 vs 1311 vs Chophouse along with the much heavier ones.
The rats are gone, but I can compare the rest of these with the Chophouse.

Care to throw the ASHBM in the mix?
It's the next one on my list,, how can I even call myself a piglet and NOT have one??

I like a fusion handle or res-c handle. A blade width and length the same as the FBM, FFBM, and NMFBM and .250" - .330" thick.

The Basic-13 or Bolo-13 would be the perfect chopper, thats if it ever comes out.

Right now I am planning on including these in my Spring '16 chopoff:

Res-c:
1311
B11
B9
Chophouse
B8LE
711
Maybe TRASH1, hollow Regulator & Taliwacker?

Large+ scaled blades
TTKZ
MOABolo
Battlesaw
ASHBM
FBMLE
CGFBM
NMFSH
ASH2
SAR 8
Maybe NMSFNO?
Still trying to round up a MOAB & NMFBM for this?

Midsize:
Sarsquatch
SAR 6
TG14
Beefmandu
Jackhammer
Maybe Tankbuster?

Swords:
AK47
Ruck
Rucki
Gladius
Maybe Butaniku?? Still deciding on that one.

If anyone would like to have their blade included that I have not listed let me know, willing to include loaners. It should be a fun, exhausting day chopping up douglas fir & pine. If anyone near the PNW wants to help/participate that's cool too. :) We can do a yak barbecue.

I guess we'll find out... ;)

Both are satin, convex, infi.
Yes I know the nmfbm digs deeper, but the TG isn't far behind IMO.

Of course I'm not a wood pro like some here, wish I had more time swinging my choppers!

Man, that NMFBM has come a long way! Great job!

I'm looking forward to some vid of that chop off and wish I lived closer to offer help👍
I probably don't have a blade I could offer that you don't already have but I'd offer a few thousand swings from the arm that still works properly.

I'm feeling the pull of the 1311, does anybody know if it was ever released with the tan handle?

I vaguely recall seeing one sage/tan 1311 at Blade '12, but it might have actually been a B11 or something else... I was too busy going after other things to focus much on it only to learn later that I missed out on a B9 of the same color scheme! Trough lessons in getting trampled are rough.

Aww. Rags posts those tan basics all day bro. I wish I'd have squeezed my head in the trough maaaaaayyyyyybe long ago! Like 2000!

Thanks guys,

If they do exist but are rare I won't hold out for one, no sense in beating a collector.

Our pile of empty milk jugs reached a critical mass again, so it was time for the boy and I to bring out the Cheness and hack them to pieces :D

I brought along the 1311, which was also quite capable, especially on half gallon jugs (they were all refilled with water in a nearby creek).

No action shots, but it was kind of crazy switching between the two. If you ever want to make the 1311 feel small and super nimble, just swing a full sized sword around for a minute, lol.

Here's a quick shot of the Cheness making the 1311 look tiny:

I wish I could take my boys out in the yard and do something like that without the neighbors calling the police.
Sounds like fun, take some video for us next time 👍

Yeah, I can't do that stuff in my yard either, but my Dad has a private club sort of place about 10 minutes away where we can do whatever.

I had a slow-mo clip my brother shot a few months ago handy. Here is my first attempt at making a gif:
