What do you put in your Aluminum capsules?

Man, just start stuffing them. Take the eraser end of a pencil or something similar and start smashing. I put #0000 steel wool in some as well.

Meds, Some form of tinder, (char cloth, tinder fungus) and one extra tha's the waterproof lighter they also sell for probably a third of the price sold anywhere else.

I've heared about carrying Nitro tablets a lot recently. Is this something one can by over the counter?

Thanks for that information. Sounds like something that would be good to have along on campouts. Is it easy to get?

Thanks,

Heber

No, Nitroglycerin is prescription only. I had a massive heart attack ten years ago. They rushed me to the hospital and, when they got me stabilized, put a stent in me and gave me a prescription for Nitro "just in case." I've carried it ever since, but haven't had any more heart attacks (so far), so I haven't really needed it. Better to carry it with me though, than not have it if I need it. If you have heart problems, you might want to check with your doctor.

Going Gear has soom good prices don't they? How do you refill the waterproof lighter?

I thought it was prescription only, thanks for confirming that. :)

If you're having even symptoms of heart problems, Heber, see your doctor. I can tell you from experience that it's nothing to ignore. I ignored the symptoms because I didn't want to take time away from work to deal with it (very stupid, I know), and it almost killed me. It was really, really close.

I'm not having any heart problems, it's just that I've heared of other people carrying Nitro tablets with them so I wondered about it. I have blood sugar problems and food alergys and am taking stuff for those problems. Having a nice waterproof container to store those meds in sounds like a good idea and would sure take up less space then the big bottles do in my pack. Hmm, might have to get some capsules for use at work cause keeping a large bottle of pills in my lunch box can be a pain.

Yeah, those capsules are looking pretty handy for a number of things, especially since they're going to be offered in a number of sizes.

Personally, i would carry a few pills in a capsule if they might be needed. Just remember that carrying without the original prescription bottle, could be an issue. I'd still do it though myself. peace. out. fred

How do you refill the waterproof lighter?

It's like a Zippo. You just pull out the insert and squirt fluid into the absorbent material in the insert.

Did I mention that the new capsules will have HA III? :D

They might be a ways out though (1-2 months). The manufacturer likes to take their sweet time making stuff for me.

Thanks for letting me know, I've only used the Disposible Bics so didn't have a clue how the others worked. BTW what is HA III? And will standard Charcol lighter fluid work in them?

Gents, thanks again for all the information. I'm thinking I'll carry Ibuprofen and Aspren in some capsuls and tinder in the others. Might have to get me a few of the waterproof lighters also.

Will be adding them to my packs and also showing them off at an Emergency Preparedness fair I'm helping with later in the summer. :) All the ideas for uses will be great to share with others. Thanks and feel free to keep posting ideas.

I carry two small ones on my key chain. In one is aspirin and ibuprofen. In the other is imodium and benadryl. I also have a bigger capsule that only get carried in the woods. It has petroleum/cotton balls. My other bigger capsule is empty, but gets used for odd things now and then.

So let me ask, What do you guys store in your little Aluminum capsules? Heber

I keep three on my keychain. One has aspirin, one has Aleve, and one has an eyeglass repair kit. I switched the long screwdriver for one that normally would go in Victorinox corkscrew, so it would fit. This pic shows them before I added the eyeglass one.

That's a great idea. I was wondering how to get a eyeglass driver in my kit but settled on putting a couple staples on the sheets of write in the rain I have in my wallet. How's using the vic driver with your fingers, pretty easy?

I have two(maybe three now with Stomper's idea:D) in one is aspirin and the other has 3 days worth of my script.

HA III is hard anodized type III. It's what is on all of the premium flashlights these days. It is a super durable finish.

I'm not sure about charcoal lighter fluid, but regular Zippo fluid works.

Actually, charcoal lighter fluid DOES work, it just burns dirty with a lot of smoke. In a pinch it'll do.

Sure, it'll work, but the smell makes you start looking around for charcoal briquets and something to grill.

Thanks for all the information! I love this place, keep learning new things every day. :)
