what do you spend a year?

STR, I just added your stuff up (not all of it but about 75% of it).

You're well over $3500. :D

Last year I spent just under $3,000. That's more than ever before and there are some contributing factors:
- I earned more last year than ever before.
- I aggressively focused on two specific areas of my collection, OldTimers and vintage Bruckmann knives.
- Schrade closeouts!
- Some "too good to pass up" opportunities in the For Sale forum area.
- Finally found replacements for the last two knives lost in a burglary several years ago.

Most expensive knife in 2005: $150, a Don Hanson custom
Least expensive knife in 2005: $1.39, a closeout Imperial-Schrade
Number of knives bought in 2005: 90
Average price of all knives bought in 2005: $32

Oh I doubt that I really spent that. I've already snagged eleven new knives so far in 06 though.

Its a sickness but truthfully I do a lot of trading for work also so not all of my aquistions are paid for with cash but instead with labor which helps a bunch.

Around $400-500. I usually get a bunch of other stuff with my knives, so the amount I spend on stuff from knife shops is a few hundred more. That said. I have been shopping very conservatively, and when I get a decent job in the coming years the number will go up drastically.

This past year over a grand. That includes a new Randall #1 from Nordic and 2 Seki Cuts from the now closed Sharp Stuff in Tucson.

Hi i'm TackDriver and i'm a knifaholic.
So farThis year thanks a certain website i'm in well over $850.00 and its only February. Crap I hope my wife dosent read this.

I have two simple rules: never ask the question you've asked and never try to total up how much as been spent on the collection total. Never.

In the ballpark of $900 last year for me. Since the wife and I are having a baby this coming June, I'm trying to knock all of my knife spending out of the way in the next few months. Sooooo many knives, soooo little time.

I started last year buying about $1,500.00 in knives and then I was laid off for 4 months. I've been in Vegas for about 7 months now and spent $50.00 today for my first knife since moving here. More interested in buying tools and supplies to make my own now.

I have this nagging feeling that the more I spend on something, the less I use it, so I don't spend much. This year, though, I am planning to buy a couple of purposeful but good knives. I expect a maximum of $500 total, and they better last me for many years. I don't really collect anything, except perhaps books, and those I buy used, real cheap.

I'm not sure how much I spent this year but I doubt it topped $100. I'm spending a lot less for knives than I used to. Too many other bills plus college takes a lot of my extra cash.

The simple rule not to think of it is hard to follow without autogenous training.
I don't really think of the money when I am in collection-gazing/handling mode, but when I check my bank statements, I know I've spent about 3 grand last year, and am lined up for two more so far this year :jerkit:
I'm most impressed with the poster whose budget is a monthly 300$
best,
t.

Net or gross. I've spent about $600 since Jan 1st. but I moved some of those to the tune of $150. so I've only netted 450 spent on knives. That's not including the pile of schrades I picked up right after christmas or the buck tins that I got to give as gifts. If you add those than the net is closer to $800 so far. the only reason I've spent so much so far this year is because I've had a few really sweet gigs come my way. Like cosine said money's kinda tight for a student.

Not sure. Last year, when I started this whole knife facination thing, I spent approximately $500 on 4 knives till I settled on a favorite EDC (Mini RSK1). This year, I've spent only $330 so far on a SAK, Mini RSK1 in M2 and a Limited Edition Mini Skirmish. I wanted a SAK for awhile because of sheeple friendliness, the Mini RSK1 because of the M2 steel and the Mini Skirmish ... errr, that was an impulse buy at a local shop. Oooh purty! :D

Now I realized that 2 of the knives I bought last year is MIA. Might've totally lost a 705 and I know my 921 is somewhere in my bedroom. So I might spend a bit more to make up for those two lost knives. Maybe a fixed blade and I'll treat myself this Christmas to a custom order large Sebenza.
