Display cases are just not for me.
For folders, I prefer having them individually stored in a nylon carry pouch with belt loop attachment.
That way, not only are they protected; but it gives me the choice of storing them away individually or carrying the knife of the day on a belt.

very nice -

thanks for sharing -

I was looking around and found this - http://www.casesbysource.com/product/svp1292/4117
a bit high priced- but I thought I could put them in vertically and have plenty of room for the "small" collection that I have now.

well today - I was out looking around at local stores hoping I could find something around town... Well I stopped in and found http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120339785634 this identical thing for $8. It is really cheap but should do the trick if I can find some foam that will fit it.

Off to the hobby store in the morning.

I keep them in a locked Craftsman toolbox with sliding drawers in my closet. About half are in the orignal boxes which helps save space for me.

I keep mine in a box I got from a store that sold nothing but peach related products.....however, once my collection grows, I'll buy that maxpedition case.

I built a solid timber cabinet - in retrospect it would have been easier and cheaper to get a lockable mechanics' set of drawers.

look at the KENNEDY machinists box. already felt lined. getting me a bottom box soon. they have online sales and price comparable to the good craftsman boxes.

Wooden machinest box from Harbor Freight, picked up this summer, at their tent sale for $59. Works fine for the knives and has lined drawers. Higher end knives are kept in a knife folder in my safe.

Check out Bill's Cases. I have always liked them better than any other brand. The Zippered ones are the way to go. Velcro just gives me fits! Just personal preference. Then you can put them in a brief case, or pistol case for transport. My EDC's just sit in a drawer, waiting patiently for pocket time.

Safe but not satisfying.

"NOT" satisfying is right. Too hard to find (or "GET TO") anything to play with, fondle or "USE" in that mess. ;)

I would assume there are knives burried in that safe that haven't been seen or handled in years. :( ... possibly even "FORGOTTEN" :( .... - That is No way to "Enjoy" your collection.

I have to recommend a trip to Sears. I also have to recommend paying a few extra dollars for the full extension ball-bearing glides. - WELL Worth it!!

Personally, I feel the intermediate chests offer the best size and shape for knife collecting. Most of the "base" chests have drawers that are too deep. And most of the "top" chests have a top lifting lid that didn't provide value for me.
Maybe a top lifting lid might work well for some people though - Maybe for sharpening supplies, oils and stuff (????).

But, one of the big advantages I see in the intermediate chests are the drawers sizes available and the fact that the intermediate chests are designed to stack on other chests and/or be stacked upon. So, very versatile for "future" stacking and "Expansion". ;)

I mostly collect and own a lot of fixed blades. So, for me, the 2" and 3" drawers are the most versatile. (* Although, I wish they made a 6-drawer intermediate chest with 1.0" - 1.25" or so drawer depths.
Anyway, the 26" x 16" x 4-drawer intermediate chest offers a lot of storage and convenience for the money:

The above 4-drawer chest is currently $197.99, but can be had for less in different colors such as green or red. You can save even more if you skip the full extension ball bearing glides. But, I highly recommend the ball bearing glides.

Depending on your collection and/or where you might store your chest, there are many different combinations of chests to choose from.

Good luck.

Yep, that is why I said safe but not satisfying. Kinda why I posted the pic to juxtapose vs. the nice tool chests the others have.

Many favorites are about the house and in some display cases, but all these are locked up and never seen. :o:( Tis a terrible fate for lovely phuglies.

I keep my Spydercos (except EDCs and backups) in Shadowboxes, available for admiration 24x7

Peter that a good look - That might be the direction I take in my "home" office hehe..

where did you get them

Rycen, Peter,
Thank you.
Shadow boxes are Mark's idea. I am just copied his layout.

Very esthetic! So you have an own room for presentation, I'm green with envy (my wife would put me out on the street, well that's an alternative and I've to think about it :p).

Peter,
I am sorry if you are green with envy already. What is going to happen, if I tell you that my wife is buying these display boxes and helping me to arrange knives? :)

Roman

Roman, you want to be my friend, do you really want?

:D

I have my wooden boxes, though your solution is more attractive. BTW congrats to your wife!

Your wooden boxes are nicely made. I am not handy at all :o
I wish I would have such a nice wooden (looks like cocobolo) box, which you have on the top, now I am "green with envy" :D
And yes, I want to be your friend. :)
