What do you think about doing away with the brass tip on the scabbard?

a can of epoxy...or Vikash has been doing touch-up :) Intending to find a loose tip, to experiment with a leather replacment, I found a few with white glue around the edges. Of course, none of the d++n things will come off when you want them to :(

In the picture posted previously, what is holding the two wood parts of the sheath? Is it glue and leather only? I guess it pretty much the same as it is now. :o

I have wanted to take my 15" AK camping but it is too large to put on my belt. I would like to put it in my backpack but I am always worried that the pointed brass tip will punch through the nylon of my backpack. By the way, I just moved from Jupiter, FL to Tega Cay, SC. It is too cold to go camping now but maybe in the spring.

The scabbards made by the new sarki may not need a replacement for the brass tip. As I posted on the "hate to agree" thread, I managed to get the tip off my newest scabbard, and the new leather appears to hold up on it's own, and his scabbard was so well made that there is no gap in the leather at the tip. BTW, the light blue epoxy he used peeled off most of the way, but rubbing alchohol wouldn't take it off where it had bonded into the grain. I hit it with Lexol right away, to reduce damage from the alky, and lo and behold the Lexol took it off. I don't know if it was the combo, or just the Lexol, but something worked. BTW again - Foxy suggested a bra for the tip. Something (besides my twisted sense of humor) nagged me about his suggestion. Ivan Campos posted a pic of the long blade made by the old gentleman down on the pampas - the scabbard was slung in an arrangement very much like Foxy's idea, but was also the carry attachment, with straps that might be used to attach it to a day pack.

If we can hang onto the village sarki, keep the same brand of leather presently being used, I think the solution to the brass tip is this: If you want it leave it on. If you don't, take it off. Easy fix.
