What do you think is the coolest CRKT knife?

Hmm, probably little Mirage Titanium.
I would like a lot also PointGuard if they would make it with at least AUS-8 blade and G-10 or aluminum scales...

Buzz,

i read on your other thread that your first was Point Guard, although you are now in the Benza league ;) . i ordered one, and now waiting for it to arrive.

curiously:
1. what made you choose that one as your first
2. how you find it when you get it
3. is it still with you ..

i guess i need to know if i made a right choice (like the shape, and handled a small version on a shop)

The first I ever bought was an M-16 for my nephew, and I almost didn't give it to him. It's been a perfect first serious knife, that he has beat the crap out of and is still kicking hard.

I never got the first bladelock, but I handled a few and liked every one of them. I'm really impressed by the Bladelock 2's look and design, but haven't handled one yet. I don't care for Zytel, so that's holding me back (yes, I know it keeps their cost down).

Anyone out there care to fashion a set of Micarta or G10 scales to match CRKT's? Email me. ;)

I was checking out various manufacturer's sites & spent some time on CRKT's site. The coolest (IMHO) knife that caught my eye & stirred my interest was the CRKT Hawk D.O.G.! So much so that I ordered one almost immediately from 1sks.:D

Being new to the knife collecting world, in the past two months I have purchased about 10 of them. In my opinion (big deal) they have many great looking knives of pretty good quality and within a reasonable budget to amass a pretty good collection. Truly not the best available but for me I love them until I graduate to the next level or suddenly become wealthy

DOG is a cool knife, only problem for me is that the scales seem to get in the way when you try to pull the piston lock back.

I've had my Hawk DOG for 6 weeks and I like it a lot.
Great lock-up!
I definitely agree with Maurice the scales were in the way.
I modified mine a bit, got rid of the portion that sticks
up past the lock.
It came out so nice, I modified the other set of scales the same.

Should be receiving my D.O.G. real soon - Maurice & Keyman, I'll keep your tips in mind! Thanks for the heads up! ;)

Review of CRKT Point Guard, Large, Plain Blade.

Today my buddy brought the knife i ordered and shipped last year (it couldn’t reach him in time) and the long waiting is now over. (For those who are confused, i lived very far from US and quality knife is something a rarity, and has to get friends to carry back)

Thanks to Spark who made sure the one to be shipped to me flawless, although i believe CRKT’s QC in general is great.

It’s much bigger than i expected (i handled a small one in a shop in town), but not as huge as my 4” balisong. The heft of the handle is nice to fill my hand (considered small)

Fit and finish: great, not a single flaw, opening smoothly and passes all the liner lock test recommended here.

Sharpness: great, though not as sharp as my CS 29LT when i bought new, but it slice through copier paper without effort. The grind would be thin enough for utility work, as indicated by other reviews on blade profile, specially by Buzzbait. It isn’t a folding prybar for sure, but it would cut my apples well … :D

Fulloflead mentioned the problem with Zytel finish being rough .. well, mine has none!

In short, i am fully satisfied with the buy, and would recommend thsi one to anyone needing decent budget tight medium working knife that one day can be a SD backup.

PS: final note, down here, this price for a knife is considered luxury good already .. :(

Love the weight and feel, good solid little knife for the money, not too sure about the quality of the steel used, but I'm sure it's fine for most cutting tasks.

I even ordered 2 from 1SKS the first time I saw them. Now I'm impatiently waiting for them to become available. ( I hate waiting)!

I also like the 1* M16 stuff that is out now.

The full sized m16 with a carbon fiber handle and tanto blade! What a great knife!

Received my CRKT D.O.G. & like it much! No problem with the scales getting in the way of the locking/unlocking mechanism. Either it has been changed or my fingers are small enough not to have a problem with the scales interfering with the lock mechanism.

I'm having fun right now with my new CRKT Lightfoot M1....I don't know if it's their BEST.....but it's a great, tough little handler for under $39....ASU8,LAWKS,good grips, flipper( flapper?..whatever...you know the wave thing),Lightfoot design, overbuilt liners, passes spine wack.....fun,fun,fun !

How is the M1 tip profile compared to Point Guard? PG is rather tapering off (going from thick to thin) along from base to tip ..

On the other hand, the Cold Steel Tanto Large Voyager is full thickness till about 1" from tip.

You know, I would buy CRKT although they are kind of pricey for what they are. Besides, can better be had for cheaper? Are they even coming from the same source?

I have been looking at the new BOSS knives which are out and I am wondering if they can't do the same thing for a cheaper price?

And now I am seeing them here. Either clones from the factory or the same thing.

So are these really crappy looking knives or of comparable quality? The CRKT may be well made although they just don't have the looks from what I see in the photos. Maybe my vision is going and I would need to hold some more of them. I held one the other day and it felt real good and had solid lockup. It still looked like a toy for some reason. Does one need to pay the high prices or can getting it direct from the source get the same thing for much cheaper. Honestly, I can't SEE the difference. Somebody enlighten me please if they have compared CRKT to these knives. I really would like to know if there is a difference when one holds them in the hand and how they perform. This is based on all price differences aside. Thank you.
