What do you think is the coolest CRKT knife?

Mr. .......bear,.....you may be right... these "BOSS" numbers might just be the ticket. I think they look promising......they are really cheap !

With CRKT, for more money than these "BOSS", you can often get a custom design by an inovative artist...albeit executed in "production" process with lower cost ( and sometimes inferior quality.....compared to the original custom model ).... but there tend to be those interesting little extras on the CRKT models ...like the LAWKS, or the teflon washers....not to mention, a consumer can actually get on the phone and contact CRKT...talk to a real live body....and work toward resolution if a difficulty with the knife develops. Do I think that CRKT are the best around for the money?..In some cases NO ( ie...Gerber Harsey Air Ranger II... it's one of the BEST under $50 folders on the market )....that said.... CRKT does a great job and many of their offerings are sweet.... and perform flawlessly. The issue can always be , if we let it, "is this kinfe better than that knife for the same amount of cash?".....and certainly that's an important question we all want to know...however the other part of the equasion is...." is this knife a good deal, does it perform well....and does it make me happy?"...irregardless of whatever other knife is out there ....Lots of happy CRKT owners out there!

me: I look at the BOSS knives as being extremely budget minded and I don't expect their lockup and their quality to be as high as the CRKT. I only speculated on the quality based on aesthetics and looks. True the mechanisms and materials you pointed out are high quality. True the lockups have great redundancy on their design. The only other thing is the quality of the steel and whether things like bead blast is needed. Now, it is true everybody is using 440A or 420 that is sub quenched cryogenically treated to optimize cheaper steel. Does this make a difference? I am not a specialist in metallurgy or treating to know. The fundamental materials of the knife is what concerns me, other than the design and production that would optimize use of the materials. It would be interesting to compare companies like Cold Steel, CRKT, etc... who are using the cheaper steels and whether the knives perform to par to some more expensive knives. I would rank Becker, Benchmade, Buck, SOG, Spyderco, etc... as being more a little more expensive as production knife companies. I have no idea where the BOSS knives will rank relative to these companies.

Yes, I think your point is well taken ! When I think about comparing , lets say ,the present Spyderco Endura model or a Cold Steel Voyager ( for not a whole lot more...and in some cases LESS ) with many of the CTRK models ........I would almost, if not always, personally pick one of them over some CRKT's . But still, I wouldn't be diasappionted if all I had in my pocked was that CRKT Lightfoot M1 I just bought. It's got plenty of nice features...the LAWKS, the mako flipper opener, ASU8 steel, teflon washers.....and a Lightfoot design. ( It cost me less than $40 , excluding shipping ! ). But that still doesn't speak to to your point. The knife companies you mentioned pretty much use a steel that has a higher carbon content and that holds an edge longer. ....and sometimes I too am frustrated that the large CRKT "Point Guard" I have in my pocket today has ONLY an AUS6m steel blade. .....but honestly... I beat the hell out of it and for under $30 bucks it has done more than I could ever ask of it: it has moderately good looks and is relatively well crafted....and the softer steel is real easy to get sharp again. But let's both keep our eye on the "BOSS" brand knives...and report back to each other when we have more news....all the best !
